Saw an advert in the paper today for Savannah kittens.

Now I've never heard of them so I went and google image searched it, and they look freaking awesome!

I'm just gone and read the Wikipedia article on them, and have seen that they're the offspring of a domestic cat and a medium-sized, large-eared wild African cat  .

Has anyone here ever had one, or met one, or know anyone with them etc? There's the niggling thought in my head of "as they're related to wild cats will it be able to snuggle up on the sofa with you for the evening?", and "will it have any road sense?" :(.

So yeah, what do you know about the Savannah cat? Half an hour ago I hadn't heard of the Savannah Cat and now I want one! :p

No, as its a cat. A cat never loves you - you simply provide it with food and shelter when it isn't busy living its own totally seperate life.

It sounds like what you need is a dog - a far more faithful friend.

Nah, this house is strictly cat's only! Had a pair of seal point siamese for 17 years. Died two years ago :(.

If we were ever to get a dog(s), it would have to be a proper working dog . I can't stand stupid little house rats. Besides, next-door have a sheep dog I can get my dog-fix from :p!

Anyways that's enough dog in a cat thread now!

Savannahs are commonly compared to dogs in their loyalty, and they will follow their owners around the house like a canine. They can also be trained to walk on a leash, and even fetch.[7]

Savannahs often greet people with head-butts, or an unexpected pounce. Some Savannahs are reported as being very social and friendly with new people, and other cats and dogs, while others may run and hide or revert to hissing and growling when seeing a stranger. Exposure to other people and pets is most likely the key factor in sociability as the Savannah kitten grows up.

Since the Serval is naturally a very outgoing and sociable exotic cat, Savannahs have not had temperament issues that would be associated with foundation cats of a more shy and/or aggressive exotic cat hybrid.

Sounds like a really cool cat. :D

Also check out Bengal cats as well..

The group chairman at work has a pair of them. I haven't seen them for a few months, but last time they did they were OMG SOO CUTE .

He did mention though that they're completely lacking in road sense (as a breed) so his have never been outdoors :(.
