Asus rampage III Extreme

Hi

Can I connect a second CPU PWM fan up to the PWR_FAN connector and still have it controlled by the motherboard??
I was going to buy a PWM splitter cable so could connect them both up to the CPU_FAN connector, but if I can get away with connecting it up to the PWR connector why waist money.

hi,
there are 8 PWM connections that can be controlled in BIOs or Windows :)
It saved me a fan controller, like u say why waste money

However, if the purpose of those 2 pwm fans is cpu cooling (push/pull on a corsair h50 for example), and you wish the motherboard to adjust the fans automatically according to the temperature of the cpu, then you'd be better of using a splitter to connect both of them to the cpu header on the motherboard. That's way both fans are adjusted the same according to the cpu temp. Otherwise, say you connect the 2nd fan to pwm chasis fan header 1 or whatever it's called, then the speed for that will be adjusted according to the chasis or system temp, while the 1st fans speed will be adjusted according to the cpu temp. This wouldn't be ideal in a push/pull scenario as both fans could be running at different speeds creating unwanted noise and turbulence.

Hi,

Is anyone having issues running all 6 slots of ram.

I have 12GB corsair dominator 2000MHz and I can only see 8GB. I have tried lowering frequency to 1333MHz but still no joy.

CPU-z can see 12GB installed but BIOS and windows wont see it

Cheers
Chris
@ Chris and anybody else who have RAM sockets that dont work.

I was having no joy with sockets B1 and B2, all other slots worked fine, after an RMA with NFF, I had a look at the backplate of the Venomous X, added some fibre washers and isulating tape to any bare metal and lo and behold the two duff RAM sockets start working again.

So if you are having this problem and have Rampage III and venomous X, give the CPU cooler backplate some insulation.

Anyone running a Noctua NH-D14 and Dominator ram on this board. If so does the actual body of the heat sink itself clash with the ram fitted in the red slots. I pretty sure the fan will clash but that could be moved to the rear.
At the moment I have a Magahalems fitted and the fan clips clash. So I have the fan held on with cable ties which isn't good on a nice new build.:(

Well i am now part of this elite group :D

Picked up my RE3 today and to be honest i am blown away with it, compared to the Gigabyte EX58A-UD5 and the Asus P6X58D-E that it replaced.

Its been a while since ive had an asus board (Asus A8N-SLI was my last) and i had loads of problems, but the faith has been restored.

Thankyou Asus :)

can this motherboard take a audigy 2 with 2 geforce 280gtx,s in sli in slots 1 and 3?...

rampage111pci.jpg

The Audigy 2 uses a PCI slot which is slot 5 (1 being top) on the board. The GTX 280s are dual slot cards so if you use I & 3 it will be blocked. If you want to use that combination use the on-board sound or get a PCI-E sound card.

There's Sandy Bridge coming out next year for Intel that will use a new socket and Bulldozer for AMD, although I'm not sure if that will still use the AM3 socket or not. An i7 should still last you a long time though so it depends if you want to wait till the start of next year or not. It's hard to say how the new CPUs will perform over the current generation...

Do you think I should go for it? Or should I wait for the new socket?

Which one is the newer one ?

I've just been reading up on this motherboard and I've got a couple of questions for you guys:

It looks like it comes with a lot of ROG software for overclocking. Is this any good, are you able to hit 4ghz+ with this software without using the BIOS?

Also, does the motherboard produce a lot of heat? If I wanted to hit 4.3 - 4.4ghz on an i7 930, would it be necessary to watercool the mother board?

Thanks guys :)

I dont use any of the software never have never will so cant be helpfull there bios f.t.w. The board itself hits 4.2 on my 920 at the same volts as i need for 4ghz on my UD5 and the mobo is just fine temp wise. NB can get toasty mine hits 70c stress testing and benching but there proof upto 100c anyway so plenty of room and thats benching anyway:)
