Obama defends ground zero mosque plans

its 2 blocks away and its a mosque not a terrorist training camp
if they meet planning regulations then they have every right to build it there
just as you have every right, if you meet the planning regulations and have the money, to build anything you want anywhere

we get it, some of you people hate muslims, you dont have to grab every headline to prove it to us

I agree with Obama, it's amazing the negative reaction the media have managed to raise from people on this forum an elsewhere. For a start the proposed mosque isn't on ground zero, so maybe the thread title should be changed, and the completely unbiased BBC headline .

I'm not a muslim, nor do I follow any religion, but the level of hatred, in assuming the link between Islam and terrorism is quite disturbing.

Even so I'm surprised Obama did comment, surely he saw how the media would pounce on it to fool people and to make it a bigger issue then it is.

Your naivety is quite disturbing actually.

Islam and terrorism are inextricably linked. When your average Joe can watch a video of a rag head chanting quotes from the Koran just before cutting a captured soldiers head off, what are people supposed to think?

Pure religion has been perverted to suit ulterior motives for thousands of years - of course it still happens today.

Why is my naivety disturbing? Where did I claim there was no link what so ever? I was mearly saying that making the assumption of a link between a group of muslims and terrorism is a poor attitude. The average Joe could watch videos of the KKK and then make assumptions about all Christians, which would also be a poor attitude.

The bbc headline is entirely accurate though.

I was referring to the bit where it says most popular, your right though the main headline is correct, my mistake.

No, most normal people.

Rubbish, most people can reason the difference between a minority of tossers in a religion and a place of worship for the peace loving majority. Every time a new church is built I don't automatically think of the paedophilia that's been rife through it.

Yeh but the muslims will view it as that, it is giving out the wrong message.

Really? They will? Or is it a mountain made out of a mole hill by non Muslims?

Eh? Can't they serve 2 terms any more?

I think he means he won't be voted in next time (should he even attempt to do so).
