will update with the unigine score

Jigger spouting as usual I see. Quality card the 470, clocks well and aint that hot at all even with a monster 40% overclock. Crysis around 80 degrees with 65% fan. Only bad thing I guess is the memory which I understand is inferior to what the 480's got.

Mmmmm, you may have software or hardware problems, anyway a 5 minute run of crysis is not going to max out temps but what ya gonna do. Saying that, your fan speed looks to hit 80% so may well be legit.

might be because I had 64bit on and I'm using modded quadro drivers

here's the unigine bench BTW

I went for a 5870 in the end, didn't want a 480 dumping tons of heat into my loop. It's silent now but all that extra heat would have made me have to turn my fans up lol. Also i use the card for blu ray playback via my hd amp and i like using LPCM, DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD over the hdmi which a 480 cannot do :)

@Raven

you on i7?

I m tempted to get a GTX480 and see how well a LGA775 system does vs i7 :p

(got a felling I ll lose)

me and my big mouth :p

still interesting to see how well a LGA775 setup does vs the newer platforms :)

in real world

Set benchmarks tell half the story, in game a 480 is way smoother that a 5870 with much higher minimum fps like shown in the BC2 run through below, 5870 is in the 20's whilst the 480 is in the 40's.

Personally if I was to buy right now I'd stretch the budget abit and look at a zotac AMP edition card or the other dual cooler 480 (forget the name sorry) as these completely get rid of the noise and heat problem. Sure the power draw remains but with a decent psu thats a mute point really. This is coming from a 5870 user.

It does have higher minimums but the GTX480 is more money and is the more powerful card but that's not my point. One of the reasons why a GTX470 is held up against a HD5870 is the GTX470 has better minimums which is not the case (well not all the time, in some cases the extra VRAM helps it out).

I have owned both the 5870 and 480gtx (currently got a 480)

They both idle at 40oC in my pc and ati reaches 71oC on load with heavy gaming and the 480 gets to 80oC.

I have not notice one being louder than the other and my rig is very quiet

The 480 is faster, as ravenxxx2 says once they are overclocked they are a real power house and scale very well indeed.
