Upgrade due now and I'm torn between these two phones.

I know the chance of getting an AMOLED Desire from T-Mobile

is probably pretty slim at the moment.

I love the screen on the Galaxy but love the build and the feel

of the Desire.

What would you do?

May the Galaxy and sell it as I get great deals and coverage from T-mobile,

been with them for 8 years.

Should be able to get it for £27pm for 600min, 500txt, internet & unlimited landline
bolt-on.

Can you quickly explain this please...I'm looking at a Desire on Orange, you're saying that you're not guaranteed one with an AMOLED screen??

No HTC could not get enough manufactured, so they used a sony lcd

screen I think.

Not sure about the black ones on Orange though.

Edit
Might want to check through the HUGE Desire thread.

It seems that if you buy a new one now, it will have a SLCD screen.

It's not a huge deal, but I'd want AMOLED if I could choose to be honest.

TBH the biggest difference twixt the two is the interface. The Desire has HTC's Sense UI whilst the Samsung's TouchWiz. I'd have thought the choice would be primarily based on which interface you prefer?

Well no, because the Sense UI is clearly better than TouchWiz.

Its between the Sense UI and the SAMOLED screen if anything.

In cause of the UI you can just use something like launcher pro if you dont like the standard UI so its down to the hard ware tbh

LauncherPro isn't a UI, it's a Launcher.

Sense/TouchWiz etc are more than just Launchers, they're frameworks hence why you can't rip out the .APKs and use them on other devices.

True, but LauncherPro blurs the definition with its own widgets and effectively does the same thing. In fact I use Home Switcher to directly move between home apps, TwLauncher-LauncherPro-ADW.Launcher.

The latest LauncherPro has its own directly resizeable scrolling widgets - messaging, calendar, bookmarks and contacts. With my SGS, can't say I used the TouchWiz interface for more than a few minutes before installing LauncherPro and I prefer it over Sense on my (wife's) Desire.

Imo it is about the hardware. The SGS isn't perfect, firmware has a ways to go and as good as the Desire is and it is a great phone. But for me the SGS screen alone puts it way out in front.
