Can someone tell me if people play UT3 on xbox live? is the community large or has it died off now? I am tempted to pick it up for a fiver or a tenner second hand.

I have tried getting into COD:MW2 and getting my ass handed to me within 5 seconds of entering the server so I need a new game to play on LIVE!

weird how quickly games online communities die these days, I remember logging onto Red Alert about 10 years after it was made and there were still people online

It's a massively saturated genre, there's at least two or three new first-person shooters out every month. That's a very conservative estimate too.

Shame really I wonder how long people will be playing counter strike and source for!

I suspect people still play the original unreal tourny along with quake 3.

last time I looked at UT original was about a year ago and people still played, also loads of servers still alive for UT 2004

Dead on PC, probably dead on 360. :p

Its not dead on the PC. The community is small (tiny, even) but we are still around and kicking it every weeknight - and its awesome fun.

UT>UT2k4>UT2k3>UT3

That's why.

UT3 is the pinnacle of the series. The shoddy release of it accounted for the major issues, all of which have been addressed by now. Sadly, it was too much for many a fanboy and effectively splintered the UT community between UT99, UT2K4, and UT3. The rest of the folk jumped over to TF2 and COD4 (the other major releases at the time). Sad really, because I believe the game deserved better from everybody (Epic, Midway and the fans).

Agreed with random guy,

The crappy adrenaline power ups ruined the 2003 and 2004, ut3 is much closer to the original ut and concentrates on the fuild movements of 2003 with the core game play of ut99.

It's annoying as after reading this I now want to give UT3 another chance, but if there's no one on live to play against, I can't !

Almost everything has an online mode now.

That's certainly true, when you think back to when UT & Quake3 were going against each other, there wasn't really anything else out there. You played one or the other religiously, or dabbled a bit on either. Counterstrike was then pretty much the main focus of online PC FPS for many years.

I suppose aside from the fact that you've got most games now having online play and so many FPS to choose from, you've also got the fact that there is a bigger number of online players, thanks to the current generation of consoles than there has ever been.

It's most likely died, I went on the Pc version last week and only around 15 servers came up, about half of them empty and the others populated by the same group of people jumping form one server to the next.

If they made something decent out of the single player it might have been a whole lot better.

really good MP component but a shoddy sp with no thought what so ever put in.
