Quality Watch

What suggestions are there? I'm thinking of a nearly new Zenith, IWC or Panerai (although I am put off by the fact Panerai are really re-badgers of movements).

Panerai do actually do their own movements aswell not just modified Valijoux movements. I am in the same sort of predicament, I currently own an auto Seamaster but have been looking to get another watch. I am sorely tempted to get a Panerai Luminor GMT but am not sure its worth sinking £4k on a Valijoux in a fancy case.

Rotty what sort of discounts are available on Panerais ? I dont suppose its going to be very much as they tend to be made in such short quantities or so I read.

I would look at a used JLC for that sort of money

from you suggestions one of the Zenith El Primero chronos would appeal ot if you want a dressy watch a IWC portuguese

I was about to suggest the exact same watch (zenith), personally I'd probably go with IWC for personal reasons.

Don't IWC just slightly modify stock movements too? I'd look at JLC?

Most of them. Off the top of my head the Portuguese is their own movement (not the chronograph, that's a modified 7750).

The two movements that are in house are the Calibre 5000 and the Calibre 8000.

I've just recently bought this, always said I'd buy myself a nice watch after graduation, 2 years later I finally did. RRP is about £3.5k, and was a fair amount of money to part with, but very happy I did.

Grand carrera

The difference between cost and value ?

I think you will probably find that numbers posted is the profit margin the company has on each product but the increase in profits from the previous year.

So for example if they made 1million last year and 2 million this year their profits are up 100%

Very nice looking watch there, but realistically, I wouldn't spend more than £150 on it :p

My phone tells the time :)

Best I ever got was 6% but even that is hard to do normally you will pay full RRP

I know you said you wanted heritage and hinted at requiring an in-house movement, but with £3k my money would be going on an Omega Speedmaster broad arrow, such as this:

The only reason I can give is that I absolutely love the look of them. JLC - I personally can't get on with the looks, as well as they are made. From IWC and JLC, it would be IWC for me. Maybe look at the Planet Ocean chronos also? Beast of a watch.

That's true. What I should have said was - I can't get on with the looks of the JLC watches in his price bracket.

at 3k he certainly would be looking at the low end of JLCs watches unless he went for a used one, the master compressor series would be out of his price barcket

Nonono, it absolutely has to be the one with a white face and blue hands and markers here

Sooo much prettier :D

The 3313 movement found in it is a very fine movement, and it is about as close to being in-house as a movement could possibly get; it's a very heavily modified Piguet movement.

It had its problems when it first came out, but they have all been resolved now, and it has a 3 year warranty ;) It would certainly be a more interesting movement to possess than one of the millions of 7750 based movements out there.

breitling navitimer

best decision you will make

those of you that choose to berate people for wanting to spend money on a watch should do one, the OP stated his intentions, he asked for an opinion on a watch not on your personal opinions regarding his money spending decisions.
