Upgrading an old P4/AGP setup so need new everything!

Not really into gaming anymore, although I do still play older stuff (eg FreeFalcon). That said, I can't rule out a spontaneous gaming purchase in the future, so it needs to look good ;)

1920x1080 res with Windows 7

Are integrated graphics worth considering nowadays? Otherwise, what's a good card at about £100ish

Integrated gpu's aren't really designed for gaming. They are more suited for web surfing and media playback.

A good card for around £100 is a 5770 or you can pick up an older gen 4890 which is faster than a 5770 but doesn't have DX11 support. :)

The GTX260 has good performance for a £100, but you would be nuts not to go with the £120 4890 being faster and having a two year warranty and all.

I don't know... it depends on the total budget and build. Nowadays it's worth spending a bit more on the graphics - say a 460 - rather than the CPU or something else, as it usually makes the most difference in gaming.

Yep, getting a new motherboard so new graphics card required too. Have been putting off an upgrade for far too long!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Also, twin monitors - something I last tried in 1999 with a Matrox card!

Is this supported out of the box on something like the HD 5770, provided the card has the outputs

eg. VTX card has "2 Dual-Link DVI-I, 1 HDMI & 1 DisplayPort"

Just hook up two identical monitors, enable in Windows and get 3840x1080 ?

Does it still do fullscreen 3D stuff on one monitor?

Whoops, my bad, didn't read properly lol :(
They don't need to be identical, but you'll effectively get two 1920x1080. This way fullscreening anything will fill up one monitor, as both are treated sperately. As long as the card has the output, almost all cards can support dual monitors.
Most Ati 5000 series cards can support up to 3, the higher end can go up to 6
With the Ati 5000 series and a few Nvidia 200 series + 400 series you can set up Eyefinity/Vision Surround, which will combine the displays to 3840x1080, so fullscreening anything will cover both. For this, all the monitors must have the same resolutions.
