Hey,

Going to college next week so i figured i might as well start saving up for a Rig :D

The rig will be used for Video Editing using After Effects, Premier Pro, Also Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, etc

Hopefully i will get a Blackmagic Intensity pro/Shuttle so it will be 1080i Video id be working with. Along with whatever College throws at me :L

Not bothered about Gaming, since i have PS3 and 360 for that. So Just Video Editing and General Surfing, Email, MSN etc

Max i could afford Practically is £600

Also if im going to College does that mean i can get a Student Copy of Windows 7? Within the Budget?

Any Suggestions?

Thanks
Ross

If you are in secondary school, college or uni, you should be able to get Win7 Pro 64bit for £38 here- http://www.software4students.co.uk/...fessional_64_bit_Upgrade_Edition-details.aspx ignore the upgrade its just an oem.

This should be great for editing http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-274-OK £605 though

Im guessing your a cod player ;)
Mainly Halo 3 Actually :L Have Adobe taken onboard with ATI cards? I thought they had better support for Nvidia or something? Or is this just palava from Nvidia fanboys? (I love both lol)

EDIT: I got a Windows 7 Upgrade Edition with my laptop think its 32Bit though but would that work? Until i saved up :L being a student and Skint lol

And a case + GPU of your choice, as much as CUDA adds a tad to image quality, I don't think it's worth going all the way to 460 for a rig that's not gonna be used heavily for gaming.

Good thing to consider is to just use onboard GPU for 1-2days, test your software and see if you're happy with the quality/speed - if you're happy then there will be no point in spending 150 on a GPU which you won't use, if you're not happy with it then buy one, I guess 2days extra won't make much difference for you and you might save yourself a lot of money.

Might also be worth trying to grab a 2nd hand 8800GT/S/X or 9800 for around 30-40quid.

Regarding case, I wouldn't recommend antec 300 as it's terribly overpriced for what it offers and for just around 5-10quid more you can have MUCH MUCH better cases but then it's just me and I hate any case that hasn't got side mounted HDDs and is too small to fit bigger PSU or GPU or cooler.

Cant argue with the Price you squeezed that into!

I had a look even at a 9800GT For £60 Which would cope with CUDA and rendering without Breaking the bank?

So then dependent on Case choice i could keep it under £500?
I had a look at the Coolermaster Storm Scout i think it was, And i quite like the look of it, and the amount of stuff it has on it!

I do like Intel for some reason as well, but this 6 core machine looks amazing!

I seen that that board also Supports DDR2 memory, Does that Mean if i eventually needed more i could get some 1066Mhz DDR2 sticks to work alongside the DDR3 Currently Listed?

For video editing make sure you get plenty of ram and a nvidia card as it helps, speeds it up a lot in CS5..

PhoenixUK spec looks good, add a nice case maybe another 4gb ram and an nvidia card, I don't think you will need a GTX460 if you wont use for gaming so get something lower end like 8800 or a GTX260 or a 460 if you want to give gaming a go on pc..
