Whats the best monitor? Gaming

NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi, HP LP3065 or Samsung Syncmaster 305T in my view these are probably the best current 30 inch monitors for gaming around the £1k-£1500 mark.

The Dell you linked is a nice monitor but the input lag is fairly high sadly though it's great otherwise.(not talking about the U3011, the 3008 model)

Whats the difference with the U3011 and the 3008?

and whats the best out of the ones you suggested?

Whats the best monitor that money can buy for gaming? (it has to be a single monitor)

please explain why

What do you mean by best? Best graphics, or a monitor that will make you more competitive?(i.e a screen with fast response times etc).

Both..

I'm thinking on waiting for the new 30" Dell to come out unless I shouldn't for a particular reason?

Unfortunately you can't have both (yet).

The most responsive monitors are 120Hz TN panel monitors like this and this. They are great for competitve gaming due to their fast refresh rates (makes things smoother in fast-paced games) and small response times (no ghosting) and low input lag (so what you are seeing on screen is as close to what is going on as possible).

The best looking monitors use more advanced panel technologies such as IPS or VA and their variations. These give much wider viewing angles, true 8 bit colour and more accurate colours. However - they almost always have significantly slower response times, more input lag and are generally restricted to standard 60Hz framerates. Therefore, many professionals and gamers that do not need super-fast screens (like people playing single player games, RTS, MMOs, RPGs etc) use these IPS or VA screens - but people playing competitve fast-paced games almost always use TN panels (often 120Hz ones).

I don't play competitively but do want to play the best on the game as possible.. and I also love good looking graphics

Are you sure the fast refresh rate is noticeable to a human eye? as I don't see how the monitor can refresh any quicker than it does already as everything is instant in game.

In that case I am sure you will be happy with a 60Hz monitor then.

The faster refresh rate simply means that when things move fast - they appear to move much smoother (so fast-paced games feel even more immersive). For example, spin your cursor around real fast - do you see a fluid movement or a bunch of cursor trails?

In the order you just said, that's the best to worst but the NEC one costs like £1400-1500 whereas the HP is £1200....though i would wait for the Dell in September also the new Apple Cinema 30 inch is tempting which is out soon too.

Okay so whats the best monitor for my needs?

I would prefer a 30" unless the smaller size has a better spec or something?

and why is the NEC MultiSync 3090WQX so expensive and whats so good about it comparing to the others?

I have been looking into these monitors, the Dell 3008WFP, the U2711..etc and although they have lots going for them, they are quite expensive and maybe a little pointless for media PC users like me. Unless you actually use your computer to do some serious work, at this point 2560 x 1600 is not required... or is it... I really dont know!!!

It appears to me, reading through the hundreds of threads over the last week or so that if you want to game on a large screen, watch movies and browse on the net. The best of the bunch at the moment is the Hanns G 28" and the 27" Iiyama prolites...These give most bang for the buck. They are nice size screens with a resolution that will not hinder the performance of your graphics card.. so you can essentially game with all of your setting maxxed (providing you have the PC to do that, which I assume you must if you are considering the higher res 30" panels.)

I love to have the latest and greatest as much as anyone, and I generally do buy the top G cards, Monitors, peripherals etc, but on this occassion and in this climate, where technology seems to be branching off into specified areas, I think I'll wait until the view to what I want becomes clearer.... although I may just get a Hanns G to play with :)

Want

120hz
2ms -5ms response
1920 x 1200 27" +

maybe this Asus 120Hz PG276 monitor 27"

The Asus promises much but may be vapourware :(

See I thought 30" are crap because of the 8ms repsonse time, poor contrast ratio. I don't consider them the best for gaming. Only good because they're 30".

I'd rather reduce a few inchs and gain a LOT of contrast and shorten response time.

Low response time, high contrast ratio and a good reputable brand is all you need.
