24-70L broken, what do I do?

H leighmans do Canon work. I have sent loads to them. They are brilliant and highly recommended. Also I have actually been to them because they are in Stoke. Been around a very very long time.

Fixed the IS on my 100 - 400 L
Focus on 17 - 40 L F4
Fixed and replaced parts in the 580EX Flash.

£65-95 + VAT + Parts is going to come out around £135 I think.

That's good to know. I just sent off my 17-55 to them to have the focus checked out. Any idea what their turn around time is?

They quoted me over £160 though.

You will have to pay shipping too, there and back. £20 each way for the 24-70 with RMSD for £1k cover. Fixiation uses UPS.

Surprised my lens hasnt died, I treat them like **** and what with Jake and his clumsy sausage-like fingers pawing at it all the time. Maybe its just luck of the draw if you get a good one or not.. Jake, I wouldn`t be too worried about going second hand.

I did have my 50mm 1.4 die the other week, was toying with the idea of buying a new one and getting the old one repaired then reselling. The AF wasnt working - but gave it a sturdy thump on my mouse mat and it started working again. Obviously its now a liability, but at least I had it for that weekends wedding. The 5D with the 50mm attached is so awesome for bridal preps - the images have a certain `feel` to them thats hard to capture with any other body/lens combo.

Drifted off-topic there.. sorry.

Are you advising Mr Squirrel should do the same? :p

If it was mine I`d take a punt on it - however I am in the situation if it dies, I have funds available to get a new one whilst getting the other one repaired or hiring a replacement. As a hobbyist I probably wouldn't chance it - it is an expensive piece of kit.

I'm not too kind to my kit either, (you should see my cameras! :p), but like you say I've never had an L series fail on me (except I had a 28-70 in TORRENTIAL rain for 6 hours, I could only use it wide-open! It wasn't my lens anyway! ;))

I try to look after them but when your shooting in a gangbang or switching bodies it's hard to stop them clunking around. But in the end, luckily the amount of paint left on your body/lens doesn't affect IQ!

Hey, I resent that! I've only dropped 2 of your lenses :p

That you know of....

Can tell you used to work in IT to...

"It's not working"

*WHACK*

"It's working now" :D

I know what you mean, i see my kit totally differently now, i still care for it just the same but it's a tool, not a baby.

"and what with Jake and his clumsy sausage-like fingers pawing at it all the time"
Bahahahahaha that has to be another gay reference! I think that quote should be on your tombstone!

Joking aside - his fingers really do look like small chipolatas. It would be funny if it wasn`t so darn creepy. All he needs to do is wear white dungaress, dye his hair green and the outfit would be complete.

Indeed. Pretty easy to edit weddings you shot for me, I just go to metadata filter in Lightroom, filter by camera (I have a preset that filters out hobbyist cameras like the 300D, 40D etc) Select all - delete.

That leaves me with the good stuff. Regarding you txtmsg, if you wanna start war then I could always recount the story of the Chimney sweeps. I thought about it earlier in my head and ended up LOL.. too funny.

lol! I swear that memory card weighed a ton last time where it was full of gold :D

First one that comes to mind

*Mark and I are sitting down having our meal, and looking through photos*
*Mark has my camera*

Mark: Cor Jake, that photo is awesome!
Me: Eh?
Mark: Seriously, that's such a good shot

*me looks at camera*

Me: Very funny mate
Mark: What? Honestly, thats brilliant, you should be proud
Me: Mark, that's YOUR photo you took with MY camera

Ahh good times :D

Personally I prefer the 'look' of a well used camera anyway ;).

I love my 5D because it looks battered :)

They said that the quote includes postage back, but you're right I do need to pay for postage there.

Jesus... do you really hang onto memories such as that with fondness? I was actually serious about that.

No, I was thinking back to last Saturday at wedding when you was standing next to two chimney sweeps (traditional tacky wedding thing) and I came down during the bride preps and said "Jake old buddy, you did get photos of the sweeps didn`t you?" The usual vacant look fell across your face and you said "oh, I didnt realise they were part of the wedding".

NAH MATE!! Chimney sweeps always walk around in traditional victorian garb looking for passing trade - the fact we was at a weddding venue, there was a wedding on and we was shooting that wedding didn`t ring any bells with you? I have posted a picture below - from this I am sure some can understand how they managed to blend into the background...

DHL are super cheap mate - you need to use one of their boxes (take lots of packing) but I think you can probably send it for a tenner. It can be done from any DHL servicepoint.
