im looking at getting sky+ with the bundled adsl and phone and had a few questions that hopefully a few of those who already have sky can help with..

now before anyone asks why dont i just call sky, i dont have a landline (which is one of the things i want to ask about) and my mobile is dying on its arse at the moment and has a tendancy to cut out..

i live in a flat in a 4 storey block and regarding the sky tv itself there is a 2 port satillite socket in a corner of the lounge, these seem to run back to a cupboard where the leccy meter is and join a 2-1 splitter. i am assuming that this runs up to the roof where there is a/several dishes which you cannot see from the ground (the buildings company is not returning my calls to answer that). but i seem to remember reading that the use of a splitter is not supported? also that sky wont install to a communial dish?

now onto phoneline, as i dont have an active BT phoneline it seems to be that i need to pay £39 set up then £11 a month. Has anyone done this and can confirm there is no other cost?

i realise its a longshot asking on here but i am very grateful for any assistance before i end up getting frustrated when my mobile cuts me off several times.. lol

cheers in advance :)

My neighbours just did this. Tell them that the set up fee is stupid as you have to pay more than £120 per year. They did and they got everything set up for free!

I've just signed up for the Sky Talk line, and so far the £39 is the only installation cost. However one warning, the numbers you need to call are 0844, and are not generally included in free mobile minutes. For my o2 phone it costs 20p per minute to call them. I've spent almost an hour on hold to the sky talk technical teams in the last week due to issues with my install (I have no BT NTE5 master socket in the house), and thats cost me almost £15 in call charges. Their online contact them system has recieved no response at all, despite the 48 hour response promise. Its only been after emailing the CEOs email address that they've become at all helpful with getting the issue with the socket resolved. (they were informed from the start that a socket was necessary, and originally agreed the engineer would come to the house on the 11th to install it, so my wife booked the day off work. They then sent a letter saying that the engineer would not come to the house as there was already a line, but if there wasn't a socket to call them. Numpties).

Openreach told them there was a line so Sky had to cancel the engineer visit as openreach wouldn't have attended anyway.

With regards to the OP, are you sure they're both satelite sockets? There are FM radio sockets often installed in flats which have the same Screw on connector types. make sure it says 'Sat 1' and 'Sat 2' on it.

Then you should be good to go. Worth remembering that Sky only supply HD boxes these days but these will work fine on a standard TV of you don't have HD.

tested both with a USB freesat box :)

the order has now been placed.. WOOT.

can anyone tell me what outputs are on the latest sky+ (non-HD (if theres a difference now)) box please? just debating whether to squeeze my jumbo scart lead through the tv unit before time or not.

If they're on a splitter then they will both work just not at the same time.

It may not be a splitter, it may be a de-stacker which allows two feeds down one cable.

Is there any writing on the equipment?
