Wheel Clamping on Private Land to be Banned

Great news? so you welcome idiots parking on your driveway and just leaking the car without retribution?

In that instance you phone the council who would come and remove it.

More like, welcome not being held to ransom if you mistakenly park somewhere, then some meat head tries to extort a disproportinate amount of money from you by depriving you of your property.

just close a gate or park behind them then

If you are talking residential driveways then people parking on them is not something I have ever heard of happening

 Since when has clamping people who park on your driveway been a regular issue? There are other legal ways to deal with that particular scenario, should it ever arise.

Perhaps the best solution for landowners would be extending the role of traffic wardens, so if the landowner pays, for example, £2,000 a year, traffic wardens would enforce their land.

Assuming proper signage and access restrictions were adopted.

And of course fines still go to the council / treasury.

I wonder how many places will sign up?

but the principal isnt that different, its your own private land and you cannot clamp on your own land but other people can come choose to park on it without any issue at all

Secure it properly then.

Most of the cowboy clampers operate in 'carparks' anyway.

Meh we have a big private sign in our car park and people still ignore it when they are in a rush (busy area), if we can't clamp trespassers any-more we will just slash their tyres, either way stops them doing it again

I can still see cars bring clamped, maybe not charged to release but rather clamped for 24-48 hours just so to inconvenience the driver.

I wonder how the changes in the law will be written?

If for example every space in your car park had a metal base for a post in front of it, and you were to come along and insert that metal post - with a padlock.

Would that be covered by clamping regulations?

A good alternative must be put in place though if clampers are stopped. Whilst there are no doubt 'cowboys' out there sometimes there is little alternative.

My firm has parking all around the building and up until we started taking measures anybody arriving after 9am couldn't get parked as employees from the company next door had taken all of the parking. People were blocked in at night and when they asked the driver to move their car so they could get out they where told where to go.

Numerous signs were placed around the building, the company next door put letters in pay packets telling their employees not to park there, and we would always issue one warning before taking action and still they complained that they didn't realise they could't park there.

They even had their own car park but most couldn't be bothered to use it as it was at the far end of their building which was some distance away.

Apart from that being criminal damage, surely they will be stuck on your land, taking up a valuable parking space for a lot longer if they cant drive away due to having their tyres slashed?

Aww. No more free metal donations. :p

Some people fight fire with fire and may decide to exact the same treatment on the property.

Not a good idea tbh.

We have private car parks outside most of our offices. We've had a few people park there, but they usually get blocked in.

We'd never resort to clamping though.
