I can't sleep on my back either, if i do i can almost guarantee i'll wake up with sleep paralysis. I think it has something to do with having the pillow press againt the back of my neck. *shrugs*
I sleep on my front with my head to the side. It sometimes gives me a stiff neck because you have to turn your head unlike when on your side but my shoulders are too wide to sleep on my side and I just can't sleep on my back.
I was never able to do this until I was in a car crash. I damaged my knee in such a way that lying on either side would have put considerable pressure on it, causing me immense pain. I did go back to sleeping on my side as soon as my knee had recovered however.
'On front' to me just means both elbows in contact with the bed. Not both nipples firmly planted against the mattress . Therefore it's easy to lie 'on your front' without straining the neck.
Only if I'm really tired, like if I stayed awake for 24hrs+ and did some physical work/play in that time. Otherwise, no. Usually I fall asleep on my chest (no neck problems...?) and change to the sides in the night, and finally lay on my back for 5 or so minutes before getting up.
I can sleep pretty much any way as long as I'm horizontal. I can't fall asleep in a chair though, I can nod off but I pretty much wake up instantly as soon as I do.
