Whats the best monitor? Gaming

Okay thanks I decided that its out of Dell 3008WFP or Dell u2711?

Does anyone know the differences and if they're any good?

I have used the Dell U2711 many times (haven't got around to reviewing it yet though) and must say the experience it gives you in gaming is simply unsurpassed. I haven't used the 3008WFP so I can't compare - but it is a larger screen (in my opinion possibly a little too large), slightly higher grey to grey response time and has an ever so slightly higher resolution than the already brilliant res. of the U2711.

I have currently been testing the NEC MultiSync PA241W alongside various TN panels from Samsung (they make some very responsive TN panels these days). The PA241W is by no stretch of the imagination designed for gaming and is not the most (or least) responsive IPS panel out there. Since part of my job is spent reviewing monitors (I've used everything from CRT to OLED) I am accutely aware of imperfections and 'slowness' in response times from IPS panels. I must say that the PA241W has surprised me (in a good way). I think the Dell U2711 is actually slightly more responsive visually, but I never really found the trailing a particular issue in movies or games for either model. Yes it is slightly more evident than on a decent TN panel, but it never put me off some serious fragging on Battlefield Bad Company 2 or detracted from the absolutely stunning colours that thing throws out.

In short: don't let the response times of IPS panels put you off. I personally find the immersive experience (especially in broad gamut models) far more important. I should have the PA241W review up on my website shortly if you want to take a look (and should be reviewing various Dell and NEC IPS monitors over the coming months). The interesting thing for most people here is that I do these reviews from more of a home user (games and movies) perspective than the usual 'professional usage' perspective. Gives an interesting slant on these things.

What do you think of ACD's?

What are the similarities, other than the size? :D

As for ACDs - I don't know much about them. Given this you should avoid them ;).

Response times means nothing(or well ok it is somewhat important but not as much as you think) on IPS panels however input lag is a different story and which is what you should be more concerned about when buying one for gaming.(most of them generally are fine though.)
