Hi All,
Me and the gf are due to fly out to Turkey for a week in September and im currently arranging the travel to and from the airport. Now the easiest way to do this i figured is to drive our car there. However, im very reluctant to hand over my keys to the car parking company after the horror stories i hear on tv about how they use your car etc.

Now can anyone suggest a decent company who provide this service and without costing an arm and leg? :D

Make sure they are "on-site". I don't think any of those have had the problems you describe but there is always the element of risk.

I always used Gatwick official website to book the parking, book in advance to save a lot of money. They give you the choice of few car parks, all of them have free bus transfer service, you can see all car parks and prices all in 1 page. Go for the cheapest one, I've used few different companies and they all work the same way.

I always park in City Place because we have an office there.

I'm pretty sure you can park there through Gatwick airport themselves as well.

The official website offers something like a "Summer Saver" offer, which is good as the buses drop and collect you from the top level where you actually need to be.

Only official parking can drop you here.

The on-site 'official' valet parking are probably fairly reputable.

I got stung at Gatwick using one of the cowboy valet parking efforts. They don't have any particular authority to operate there - they just meet you in the pickup/drop off areas.

I called around 5-10mins before arriving as requested, and they never showed up. People from their company turned up for other people, but never me. As I was nearly late for my flight, I took my bags out of the car. Called them a few times, where each time they said someone was on their way.

Got a parking ticket for being in the pickup/drop off area too long - guy was a right jobsworth. Nearly hit him. Eventually gave up and used the official one - so paid for parking twice.

My complaint went nowhere. Apparently when I first rang, the controllers log has record that I called but said I was miles away and he had asked me to call back when I was the required 5-10mins away?! So they just lie, then. Eventually got a credit, but no refund. Not bothered using it.

the summer saver one is a hand your keys over job

I think the normal one is parking express

Yes, your correct. My mistake.

It was the Long Stay South option not the Summer one.

Park, Lock car, keep keys then get on the bus.

Might be cheaper to get the train.

We're going to USA next month, we got advance anytime tickets valid +/- 3 days from the dates we specified for £11 each from Wimbledon. Parking was £90 or so (plus petrol)

Definitely go for one that lets you keep the keys, that way the only thing that can go wrong is that you lose them (apart from theft).

We left a shiny new motor there 3 years ago and handed over the keys. Arrived back from Africa and the whole nearside was wrecked.

The numpty who "parked" it "didn't know that 4x4's could go fast".

I'd avoid airport carparks if you can. Trains and/or taxis usually easier and not that expensive. Where are you coming from?

My parents have always used a third party company who meet you at the airport, take the car and park it whilst you go about your business. Then when you come back you give them a call and they meet you outside with the car. Can't remember the name of the company off the top of my head, could be Meet'n'Greet or something like that. Always been fantastic and never a problem with anything.
