Kill girls at birth due to 'one kid' policy and sons held in higher regard. Lots of single male kids = lots of spoilt male kids (little emporer syndrome). End up with massive spoilt male population without enough girls to go round, which as they're used to getting everything and now can't even get a girl, for YEARS (ever?), completely mentally messes them up (this may be China I'm thinking of? Or both?).
Funny things happen to guys after years and years of not being able to get a bonk or any kind of normal relationship- kind of screws them up about the whole relationship thing and they end up loving the retardedly dancing 14 year olds ... Just look at our priests ..

It's a different culture with different rules. It doesn't mean it's immoral or necessarily seedy though.

Japan is only "messed up" in the western world's view, their culture is completely different and that's fine for them, it's not even messed up either, they're fascinated by the cartoon culture and schoolgirl uniform style - they're fascinated by it but that doesn't mean they go round abusing schoolgirls or something now o_0.
Check out Madventures episode showing them visiting the darker side of Japan where they show you exactly what Japan is all about.

my god she did that badly!
i watched a version of this a while a go which was actually quite good. which is suprising because the choreography is rubbish even for an anime (even though i liked the series abit)
her popularity is almost up. 5 minutes of fame, just like Magibon (who ended up stripping down for dodgy underage photobooks). no one will know her in a few months. Hopefully there arent going to be any more.

This has now been made illegal as far as im aware, there was a seedy business in this a few years back. Read up on it somewhere might try link it if i can find it again its an interested read.
Just watched the documentary now.
I don't think it was a waste, it was quite interesting. Yes, she is talentless, but it was more a documentary looking at people who have become famous without really intending to, more down to what YouTube can do to people. Really though it might have been good if they'd looked at other people who have become famous through YouTube, rather than just Beckii and that other girl who was trying.
Really though, she would have just been another girl dancing on YouTube if it wasn't for the zaniness of Japanese culture and how they want her to be a star because of an internet video. It clearly wasn't working, as the Japanese Manager failed to deliver and her branching off into trying to sing looks like it's going to come to nothing.
The most poignant part of the documentary though was when the other girl was looking at her YouTube viewer stats and discovered that hardly anyone her own age was watching it; instead, most of the people viewing her were men 50+ :/

The Japanese culture has a rather disturbing lolita complex. You can look at their manga/anime to see this. It's also wroth noting that anime/manga characters look more 'western' than Japanese. What Beckii has is a anime/mange face with Japanese behavioural characteristics. Her dance may not be impressive, but it's very Japanese pop-culture like.
Japan with idols are like UK with big brother contestants. 15-minutes of fame followed by nothing or a seedy career.

oddly thought they have one of the lowest sexual crime rates on earth.
I thought crime in general in japan was relatively low?
I could be very wrong though, but im sure again i read somewhere about them being a rather proud culture when it comes to crime etc.

As a side note, the 'one kid' policy has been abolished in China over a decade ago. Most Chinese families i know have 2-3 childern.
