Would like to buy my boss a nice bottle of wine, nothing overly expensive but willing to spend up to £30 i guess.

The man likes his curry, so something to go with a nice curry would be a good start i think.
Any ideas anyone? Need to buy it this evening to take to work tomorrow!

For that price range you cant go wrong with Chateauneuf Du Pape imo. I assume its red you're after?

Edit - Can be got in Tesco by the way, in their "posh wine in wooden boxes filled with straw" section

Chateauneuf Du Pape makes a very good gift as everyone knows the name so your boss will know you got him a nice bottle even if he does not know wine.

cool, i'll pop to majestic to get a nice bottle of the chateauneuf-du-pape on the way home tonight.
He seems to know his wine and yes, red is a good choice :)

thanks all

If he likes tomato based curry try the Taste the difference Gavi from Sainsbury's. I had it last night and was very impressed!

£7.99

Chateauneuf-du-pape is good but a bit... I dunno... overplayed?

If I want a nice red and over that, want someone who appreciates wine to appreciate me thinking about the wine, it would probably be a good Beaujolais like a Fleurie.

I know price isnt always a good indicator on quality, but majestic only sell bottles of this for around £10.
Is that normal?

I always like a nice vanillary deep Rioja myself. The Black/Gold label Lagunilla Special Reserve, or the Faustino I Gran Reserve are both aces

Great choice, lovely choice infact and I wouldn't expect a good bottle of that to cost you more than £20.

Either that or something similar value from Bergundy such as a nice Beaujolais.

Chateauneuf-du-pape is a nice wine and one that is known by pretty much everyone as a decent bottle. So if he isn't much in to wine then this will probably be better. If he enjoys a good bottle of red, try something like fleurie, if sticking with French. I prefer a nice bottle of Italian, either Barollo or a valpolicella, preferably Amarone, fantastic wines and should find a nice range of them.

They are never cheaper than £9 or so from anywhere but go up to, well, silly money really.

Buy a bottle for yourself and try it, if you have the time/money/inclination - they are generally excellent bottles even at the "cheap" end.
