Macbook Pro 13 or 15??

It isn't free. When I bought my 15" MBP last month via HE the 3 year Applecare was £54. Still, an absolute bargain as it is over £200 normally.

I'm pretty sure the 3 years part + labour come as standard on HE (that might vary between institution) - but you don't get phone support, so it's not called AppleCare.

I just bought a 15" and had the same dilemma as you but went for the 15 over the 13 because of the i5 and the better graphics card, oh and the high resolution screen option.

I paid the extra £50 for the HE applecare as it saves having an argument over the warranty at a later date as sometimes you can have a fight to get them to add on the 3 years if you havent gone for this option, I had this experience with my last HE purchased mac.

I got the 09 15" macbook pro and havnt stopped smiling since :) (the revision with the really big battery but only core2). My only bit of advice is if your moving away form having a nice big powerful pc you'll appreciate the extras in the 15" over the 13" a little bit more (then again I wish I bit the bullet and went crazy for the 17"...)

I found one of the things that swayed me was the speaker set up in the bigger models sounds better than the 13 as they arnt hidden behind the keyboard (and I cant be bothered plugging external ones in all the time) but thats about the only undiscussed area to all of this...

Having just got my 15 inch i7 MBP I'm quite surprised at the weight of it compared to the 13 inch MBP which I owned late last year. Sure the 13inch model is a lot easier to carry around due to its size but I don't really think theres much in the weight to be fair. To counteract the extra weight and size, I got a decent targus bag which has a padded shoulder strap and tonnes of storage room and when I put the laptop and some books into it, its not much heavier than sticking my MBP 13 inch a sleeve and sticking that into my uni back with the same books, yet its comfier to carry due to the padding on the shoulder!

Really happy with the speed of the machine as it really flies in programs and there's little to no delay on opening and closing the office programs, which I did notice on my MBP 13inch with core2duo. The speakers are definitely better on the 15 inch model due to them being on the sides of the keyboard instead of part of the keyboard and the battery life is pretty damn meaty at 7 hours 54 minutes of wireless internet browsing.

Can also play torchlight and day of defeat on max everything at the native res smoothly which is a plus. I'd say if you don't need the speed + nvidia interchangeable graphics card and move around a lot, get the 13 inch MBP. If you need the extra graphics power though or want a faster machine, look at the 15 inch models.
