Jags & Jags ...has anyone here ever owned or lived with a Jaguar XJ6 X300 (1994-1997)

This one wasn't. I guess it would help if I knew what model it was, perhaps it was a pre 2002 model? It had modern looking lights, though...

You sure it was an XJ not an S type, because if anything the pre 2002 are better screwed together than the later cars.

Are you really asking me that? Of course it was an XJ. If only I could remember the reg :(

From the pictures I can tell now it was a prefacelift example of the shape Moeks has just bought. I suspect it was a circa 05-07 car. It was nice - but it it wasn't an S Class, nor an Audi A8.

Cant understand that then, they really are well put together normally.

Especially with you saying it wasnt wearing well either, very odd.

We'll see what Moeks is like on Saturday :) Perhaps it had led a very hard 22k!

Really am surprised, the loan car i get at my indy Jag place is a 53 plate just likes Moeks with 160k on it, and i kid you not it dont rattle and drives perfectly.

Oh Moeks, can you nick those rubber suspension turret caps from the engine bay before you trade it in? I've never seen them on any E39 before, and I reckon they'll good in mine ;)

Swap a pint for them! :p

See now thats just buzzard like behaviour picking at the corpse!

Well chaps, things didn't go quite to plan today, my Jaguar has turned into a '59 Citroen C2 VTR tonight :( ...I noticed when I fired the Jag up and went to drive away the battery light didn't go out, so I dropped it into drive and drove towards the gate, it didn't go out then either so I parked back up and went straight back into the dealers to tell them about this.

They looked quite surprised and told me it had just had a new battery fitted (which it has as I looked at the old one and this one is different) ...anyway at this point I thought ...oh damn I bet it's the alternator, well anyway they put it up on the ramps in their workshop and hooked some diagnostic equipment upto it, the battery was testing fine as was the alternator ...but apparently the connector that runs from the alternator to a relay and then to the back of the car and to the battery (under the boot floor in an XJ) was a little grimey looking, so the mechanic cleaned it off with some contact cleaner and connected it back up and it seemed to be ok ...anyway he asked me if I wouldn't mind just driving round the block rather than rushing home just to make sure, so I drove it to the fuel station and filled it up, when I restarted it the light came back on ...so I turned it off and on again, same thing ...so I drove it straight back and the mechanic said that it would seem although the battery is ok and alternator is testing as fine the power is not getting to the battery from the alternator, he's going to have a proper look tomorrow ...needs to take the under tray off etc.

So I got a Courtesy car, a 59 plate Citroen C2 VTR (don't ask me what's VTR about it though, it doesn't even have aircon!) which is one of the most horrible cars I have ever driven, and has really given me a fresh perspective on luxury cars ...hell the old BMW with the half knackered suspension rides like a limo comapred to this C2. It's only got a 5 speed box and it's unbelievably noisy at motorway speed, can hardly here myself think much less have a conversation with someone else without having to shout ...horrid car.

Anyway I hope it's just a simple connector/relay replacement and I get my Jag back tomorrow. I really hope. The short distance I did get to drive it today though it was lovely, and the wing repair looked good (although it was so wet today it wasn't ideal for inspecting cars). Anyway I hope it's just one of those things and it'll be fine, and it's not some sort of bad Omen of things to come.

Edit: Sorry Fox, if you had asked me that earlier I would have grabbed them for you, too late now though :(

Also, Jaguar XJ's have leather lined door bins, S Types are just plastic. The switch gear is a bit Ford yes, it's all very nicely put together and doesn't feel at all budget on the whole, but the switch gear and the plastic around the steering column is a bit Ford yea ...and the climate readout isn't as good as BMW's no ...but it works very well none the less.

Damn :(

These things happen though, and dealer = comeback, thankfully. Things would be different if it was a private sale!

Minor hiccup dont panic, its good you dropped the 540 off, last thing you needed was that going wrong before the chop.

Well they seemed more than willing to sort it out, they actually said to me they were a bit embarrassed So that's fair enough so far then.

The mechanic actually said to me, on the quiet that he has had to clean-up after the salesmen and the guys who clean the cars before. Couple of weeks ago they jump started a Porsche Boxster they currently have for sale at about £15k and they did it wrong, fried the ecu ...which they had to replace at great expense.

And the cleaning guys sometimes get carried away with the pressure washer ...he told me that some months back a customer came to pick-up a Mercedes CLS ...and all the dash warning lights came on like a christmas tree ...well anyway after checking the mechanic found the ECU and surrounding bits swimming in water (had to replace the ECU here too) ...one of the numptys had basically hit it all with a preasure washer. They've done it under the bonnets before too apparently ...despite the fact the mechanics keep telling them not too. Hopefully some pin-head with a pressure washer hasn't killed something.

Professional setup then?! Looks can & often are deceiving unfortunately...

Best of luck with it all fella, hopefully it's nothing serious & the above is just 'a workers moan' but can't say I'd be filled with confidence.

Did you get the years proper Jag warranty with this by the way?

Well they are fixing it, it's costing them not me, I just find it annoying because I was expecting the car today and while I don't live all that far I'm not exactly around the corner either so I have to go out of my way a bit to go there.

It's Evans Halshaw ...so I've got all the come back I need really ...I can't fault them yet, they have been friendly and helpful and I don't have a reason to critisise them yet. If this is fixed without issue, in good time then I'll be happy ...if they mess it all up and it drags out and they bitch and moan and ask me for any money ...then I wont be happy and I'll have to start writing letters and such. We'll see. These things happen.

Edit: ...no Mark, 3 months with Evans Halshaw. Apparently I can use it at Stratsone since they are sister companies although the warranties are a bit different. I did ask for more but no such joy.

I asked how much they charge, since they didn't want to throw it in, for an extended warranty ...apparently it was about £400 for a year ...which is pretty damn good actually and a lot less than Stratstone themselves charge ...well I then get told that recently they had stopped offering the extended warranty option on all 'prestige' vehicles, and they were coming up with a new Prestige Warranty (which will of course cost more) ...and that it would be available before mine expires and I would have the option to extend it then.

Well suffice to say it looks like the £400 warranties were a bit good, and they don't want to do them any-more ...one air-compressor fault on the Jag or something like that can cost more than to sort anyway so it was quite good value. I suspect their new warranty will be twice as expensive ...or something stupid like that.

I didn't have a years warranty with my other Jag either, just 3 months from Stratstone. I don't know how you persuade them to give you more warranty but however it's done I haven't succeeded yet. I think I find it hard to hide the fact that I want the car and I'm not just going to walk out and find another one, I need to work on my poker face a bit.

Pitty Tesco have stopped their motor warranties, they were pretty good, and they'd cover this car as it's under 3500cc.

Oh also, I found another optional extra I didn't notice last time, it has electrically folding mirrors :D ...I didn't have that option on my other one either, I don't need to tell you how handy that can be on a car this size.
