Well chaps, things didn't go quite to plan today, my Jaguar has turned into a '59 Citroen C2 VTR tonight

...I noticed when I fired the Jag up and went to drive away the battery light didn't go out, so I dropped it into drive and drove towards the gate, it didn't go out then either so I parked back up and went straight back into the dealers to tell them about this.
They looked quite surprised and told me it had just had a new battery fitted (which it has as I looked at the old one and this one is different) ...anyway at this point I thought ...oh damn I bet it's the alternator, well anyway they put it up on the ramps in their workshop and hooked some diagnostic equipment upto it, the battery was testing fine as was the alternator ...but apparently the connector that runs from the alternator to a relay and then to the back of the car and to the battery (under the boot floor in an XJ) was a little grimey looking, so the mechanic cleaned it off with some contact cleaner and connected it back up and it seemed to be ok ...anyway he asked me if I wouldn't mind just driving round the block rather than rushing home just to make sure, so I drove it to the fuel station and filled it up, when I restarted it the light came back on ...so I turned it off and on again, same thing ...so I drove it straight back and the mechanic said that it would seem althoug the battery is ok and alternator is testing as fine the power is not getting to the battery from the alternator, he's going to have a proper look tomorrow ...needs to take the under tray off etc.
So I got a Courtesy car, a 59 plate Citroen C2 VTR (don't ask me what's VTR about it though, it doesn't even have aircon!) which is one of the most horrible cars I have ever driven, and has really given me a fresh perspective on luxury cars ...hell the old BMW with the half knackered suspension rides liek a limo comapred to this C2. It's only got a 5 speed box and it's unbelievably noisy at motorway speed, can hardly here myself think much less have a conversation with someone else without having to shout ...horrid car.
Anyway I hope it's jus ta simple connector/relay replacement and I get my Jag back tomorrow. I really hope. The short distance I did get to drive it today though it was lovely, and the wing repair looked good (although it was so wet today it wasn't ideal for inspecting cars). Anyway I hope it's just one of those things and it'll be fine, and it's not some sort of bad Omen of things to come.
Edit: Sorry Fox, if you had asked me that earlier I would have grabbed them for you, too late now though
Also, Jaguar XJ's have leather lined door bins, S Types are just plastic. The switch gear is a bit Ford yes, it's all very nicely put together and doesn't feel at all budget on the whole, but the switch gear and the plastic around the steering column is a bit Ford yea ...and the climate readout isn't as good as BMW's no ...but it works very well none the less.
