Noctua D14 or Akasa Venom?

I'm looking to overclock my e6600 (quad) to a decent level for the first time sometime in the near future, for a nice performance increase.
The question is should I go for a D14 or the Akasa Venom?
Now obviously the D14 is nealy double the price of the Venom (and many say the best option currently for air cooling) but how much actual difference in performance is there between them, any ideas?

Space is not a problem in my case so that wont be a deciding factor and price isn't really an issue either as I don't mind paying a bit more for a good cooler that can be used again and again.

Would be interesting to hear people's opinions on this one and if anyone is using either or both and has anything to add that would be great.

Cheers chaps! :)

an e6600 is a dual core, q6600 is quad

if it's an e6600 then get the venom as there won't be much difference between the two, if it's a q6600 then get a d14

as far as difference I'm unsure however the Noctua is the clear performance king and cooling is one of those things thats best over specified. if you can afford to spend the extra get the noctua knowing you wont be replacing it when you upgrade

Yep it's a quad, my mistake with the lettering. :)

Cheers for the advice. :)

That looks like a great cooler, thanks for the heads up. :)
It seems like a pretty new one too so I'm guessing getting a hold of one may not be that easy yet?

It's meant to be released in shops this week but I don't know about OCUK. It would be great to see it available here.

Be interesting to see if this would fit with my reaper ram, or is it similair in size to the noctua nhd14. Very impressive cooler.

The review Helios linked to has some side-by-side pictures next to the D14, should give you a good idea on how it compares; seems to be slightly smaller in some dimensions but bigger in others.

The poor mb wouldn't know what hit it with that hanging off it, lol. :D

Yep, seems it covers a few ram slots.

My own current TRUE black, heavy enough as well lol

Have pretty good spacing if i ever go to 12gb.

You can always move the fan to the back of the cooler instead so only one slot would be covered. The angle of the picture makes it look like the heatsink itself covers two slots but it's just one really.

crucial ddr3 1066 i think, but they have no heatsinks what so ever having just read the faqs on noctua site i think it will fit ok
