Apologies in advance for any war that may break out from this, will say straight away I really don't care which make they are ATi or Nvidia, I just want to play games fast and have all the knobs turned up to 11 :)

Have been looking at review after review and the 5870 seems to come out top on many occasions but having read about it seems like the latest Nvidia drivers have given the 470 a bit of a boost.

I am a massive Age of Conan player and would love to be able to play it on DX10 with no slowdown (impossible I know due to crappy engine) but as well as can be. I would love the experience the world of DX11 and be future-proofed for the near future.

So what's it to be?

TIA :)

5870 is more powerful & more expensive
470 is a bargain price / performance ratio at the moment and does keep up in a lot of games.

If you can get one cheap enough then I'd say 5870. If not, and you can handle a bit more noise and heat, then a 470 at approx £225 is worth considering.

if they are sparkle i would steer clear.. ive had a few sparkle cards all broken and there rma policy is shocking ...

would must they do to them i swear

the 470's i received where inno3D cards no games but comes with a free mouse mat lol does what it says on the tin and more

I picked up my 5870 for under £200 so was a no brainer. If i were buying new it would be a trickier choice as the 470 is very well priced now and can be had for £221 including just cause 2 from another etailer. I'd still go ati as i want the hd audio over hdmi for films. If i didn't use that i may well have bought a 470 and saved £60-70 over a new 5870.

Im playing AOC on DX10 @16XAA,you cant run it at all the highest settings as the DX10 shadows cripple FPS in places, but generally the game looks superb running at very high settings

Edit: Just seen youve ordered the 470,if you can overclock to 800mhz+ you will be at 480(stock) speed

Have fun with your new card:)
