Oil change shocker

To be fair to the OP some engines do have poorly designed dipsticks that are hard to read, pulling them out either tends to scrape the oil off or oil within the dipstick tube smears onto the end of the dipstick.

Are there no oil patches where you normally park?

You are checking the oil when the car has not been driven, yeah?
Could all be collecting in the undertray and spilling out of that when cornering etc.

Lucky escape dude. :)

I've never checked the oil on my Fez. Thats what a warranty is for.

Pretty sure if the engine uses all of the oil and you don't bother checking it and fubar your engine Ford won't simply hand you another.

Warranty does not mean you can neglect basic maintenance

good stuff. let it run low a few times, if it pops you get a new engine on warretny

if not then youre PROPER screwed as youll have to keep the potentially damaged engine thereafter lol

Yep usually when I check the oil it's not been driven (I know you don't get an accurate reading just after driving).

The drive at home is gravel so it wouldn't be as obvious as normal but we've not noticed anything. At Uni I park it in different places so it's not surprising I haven't noticed anything.

Wasn't trying to be patrnoising, just thought I'd ask.

Hopefully you've got away without any damage! :)

You can't be serious?

I didn't take it as patronising :D

I wish my car *had* a dipstick :( Just another sensor with the capacity to go wrong on you.

What car's that?

I checked it today and close inspection revealed oil where it's meant to be and dried oil of the same colour extending halfway up the dipstick on both sides. Could be I've been misreading the dipstick in the past because of that - who knows.
Anyway, all's well that ends well :)
