Microsoft "It's time to invest in PC gaming"

Theres a vast amount of money in the games industry and having games ported across to other platforms can earn companies a fortune. Look at the revenue of world of warcraft or the sheer volume of sales from modern warefare 2. If you listen to the community and have some talent is pretty damn easy to make a fortune in this area and microsoft understand this.

i wouldn't say its easy to make a fortune.
yes the big titles make a lot of money, but only a small portion of games actually make decent money, a large majority barely break even or fail completly.

there are also so many games that just slip through and no ones ever heard of them.

remember a lot of games cost millions to make, so have to sell a large number just to get the money back, thats y so many games get cancelled, companys go bust all the time, etc

Sorry this guy specks the truth MS got you DX which even ( the consles use to some extent)

they wouldn't be here today if it was not for the PC...most things in a consle was prototype for the PC back than apprently ( I said APPERENATLY)

DirectX is gay, openGL should be used more... would work better on linux and OSX, but MS wouldn't like that. If games ran openGL we wouldn't even need to buy windows.

After they have closed down all their pc dev's, now they think its time to invest in pc games.

MS go get stuffed

OpenGL is too outdated, DX11 blows current OpenGL spec away
Long Peaks would have been a start, but what we got was not what we were expecting

Right now they are just left copying MS rather than leading the pack

The best thing Microsoft could do for PC gaming is remove Games for Windows live.

Then shoot the daft **** that decided it would be a good idea.

Fail.

and who cares what MS says about pc gaming? pc gaming has been fine without them.

I wouldn't say it's doing fine. If it was doing fine, we would have loads of game devs pushing the boundaries in graphics. At the moment we have nothing more than ports with a bit of AA. The tech is there, the devs are not.

Pc gaming needs a kick up the arse imo. The only exclusive games it gets is the typical RTS :(

Big list of 2010 games, some have been released already ofcourse, some probably won't be out this year but there is a lot. A lot of them are just indy games but there are a lot of games in development and we only hear from the big companies because of their marketing machine. Go on the hunt for good games and you should be rewarded instead of just idly sitting by for a big company to go woo our games out soon.

Dead rising 2, only a month to go.

Going to be immense on PC, especially with the 2player Co-Op.

Who needs MS when you've got capcom bringing a zombie game to PC thats arcady and lets you have a paddle with 2 chainsaws on it?

Aren't they a bit late? Theres already been an excess of zombie games and they seem to be dieing out again for a while.

I quoted this from one of the comments on that post.
