In relation to my previous threads, I am hoping a Mini can offer me the driving pleasure I am looking for but at the same time be cheap to run to my daily 60 mile commute.

Unfortunately I am looking at the lower end of the market on these at around ~4k and have a few questions.

- Are they any good? I know they will not be the fasted things in the world but I am hoping the notoriously great handling and quirky charm will win me over. I've driven the later turbo'd cooper S which was a hoot, I am question the standard cooper will be nearly as fun?

- Also will it be a nail at this price?

Thanks in advance...

I wouldn't want to do 60 miles a day in a Mini however, is the commute down dual carriageways / motorways or more rural A roads?

This one looks quite nice also for the money: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1956289.htm

I have 2 options, one if up the A23 which is a boring dual carriageway. The other which I took more often than not was all B roads which also worked out slightly quicker.

So boring though? I know they drive ok and are a good buy but I am kinda looking for some more interesting than a 'dueltec mondeo' :)

Focus/Mondeo is the 'safe' option.

Something that is 'fun' is not going to tend to be particularly good for the commute due to the harsher ride.

I wasn't thinking of the old one :p

60 miles a day in that and I would be stumbling into the office like an OAP :D

And I'm doing a 120 mile drive to Coventry Sunday night! :p

Wish me luck and if I don't come on here, call a chiropractor for me. :o

At least have a look at the classic old style, I am guessing handling/fun is far superior. Not to mention it won't loose value if you keep it looking good. :D

So maybe I shouldn't be so picky at this budget for a a car used as much as this will. Would it help if I increased the budget to 5k? I really like the E46 and the running costs for the 4cyl don't look anywhere near as bad as the the 6's.

Good luck with that! I managed 30 miles driving an original mini to Hastings years ago and it felt like an age!

Haha, it shouldn't be to much trouble. Longest I've driving in my Mini is 273 miles where I ended up going from my house to St Helens and then back to my house and to St helens again and back to my house in one day. :o

Crikey didn't notice them, look like my old school uniform.

Car's alright though right?

Well bit more mileage than I'd like if you want something reliable. I am not an expert on that particular car or anything but I'd rather find something not so close to the 100k mile mark. :)
