ok so i have my virgin media box connected in my living room at the moment but we are changing the room to let out and need to move the tv to the kitchen, i don't want to have to get a massive cable to go through the house to get signal there, so is there a way to stream the signal wirelessly from the virgin media box to the tv without cables?

Yes. "Video senders" do what you need. They take a basic video signal + stereo audio and send the signal to a receiver. This isn't HD.

The best type to get are the ones that work on 5.8GHz and that have remote control pass back. This means you can change channel on the V box from the other viewing room. Budget fo this sort of kit is £50+

There are HD wireless video senders. The entry level budget is roughly £300.
 
Be careful! I tried one and it works ok if you don't move around. Put the microwave on and picture / sound breaks up completely! (tried transmitting 4 metres from one room to kitchen in next room).

That's wireless for you.

Microwaves usually interfere with 2.4 GHz stuff (wireless router B/G frequency ranges), same as DECT phones, baby monitors, wireless CCTV cams, bluetooth headsets, and all manner of other domestic wireless gear that folk think will all happily co-exist despite the fact that it's all really fighting for the same frequency space. 5.8GHz is cleaner... at the moment... but it'll go the same way eventually as more and more folk go wireless. Ho hum :)

I can't really recommend any, for two reasons...

1) wireless is difficult to predict. What works for me in my house might not work for your in yours. Or vice versa. A bit of wire is dependable. Wireless should be your last choice if you are absolutely sure you can't run cable.

2) there are lots of models on the market. I get the feeling that there's a lot of badge engineering going on. Who knows what's inside the boxes as they leave the Chinese and Turkish factories?

The best advice would be to buy something from shop where you can return it if it doesn't work and try a different brand. :)

A R G O S has the AEI DigiSender X2 which has remote control pass thru.. they call it "remote control relay" ... same thing, different name
