Jags & Jags ...has anyone here ever owned or lived with a Jaguar XJ6 X300 (1994-1997)

I read that as "I was 8 years old at the time though"

:D

Hehe well I have been told I do look quite youthful ...but that would be a bit extreme :p

Arhh the 'better' your/my cars get the more problems they seem to have though, one thing about my Fiesta was there was so very little to go wrong. It didn't even have central locking or front electric windows ...all manual. The only thing it did have was power steering and a drivers airbag ...which was more than some of my friends cars had though.

Hopefully after this I can stop posting about what is wrong with my car or why I can't drive it at any given time. And in several months I can just make a nice post about living with an XJ6 and how it's been lovely and all.

i'd be intererested to know what MPG you are averaging.

I'm getting about 14-15 mpg average - i don't know if thats normal for an XJR but have noticed it doesnt change much between 70 - 100 mph it sort of sticks at around 18-19 mpg.

That is absolutely shocking. I realise that it isnt as powerful as your R, or as torquey, but a BMW 750i (360bhp 4.8 V8) manages 30mpg on a run as a comparison, and is a heavier car!

The XJ6 thus far, bear in mind I haven't driven in much, but with very mixed driving has averaged 28-29mpg ...I would expect to see mid to even high 30s on a motorway run. My XJ8 used to see 23-24 average, 33 on a runthough.

ramirez do you go everywhere sideways at full power or something :p ?

Actually the supercharged V8s do have a bit of a drink problem from what I have heard, although they should be ok on a decent motorway run.

Something not right there, on a run XJR's are no worse than 3.2s really.

Got it back, it is fixed now, and it's running great.

The problem was indeed not the alternator as the tests indicated, it was a connection issue, just where he hadn't checked before ...in fact my Grandad hit the nail on the head exactly (which will keep him happy for a while :p ), it was the connection between the starter-motor and the alternator that was loose (it's a soldered connection and the solder had cracked and broken), it was corroded all the way around too suggesting it had been loose for a long time, possibly a couple of years the mechanic thought.

After having a lot more time to drive the car alone and on various different surfaces I suspect one of my tyres might be slightly out of balance. So I'll get that checked next week when I have the chance. It's hard to be certain with this car as it isolates you so much from the road and the steering is so light.

Anyway I shall indeed be at the meet tomorrow in it, I thought for a bit that I wouldn't be as they rang me quite late in the day and they said they hadn't got any drivers available to bring it back ...so I went and got it myself. I'm happy now anyway, although I will be happier still if it handles tomorrow without issue, it'll be something like 320 miles of driving in total and if it handles that without fault ...then I will start to have some faith I think.

I just wanted to say, I love my car ...so far. I have gotten used to the reduction in power and torque now, so I'm just pressing the accelerator a bit harder. It's such a nice car to drive :D ...the ride is fantastic compared to ...well anything really but specifically the 5 series. It's so smooth and quiet, it just glides along, I have done about 700 miles in it so far and it's been a pleasure.

Also if anyone fancies an immaculate Bentley Flying Spur ...this one is worth a good look :p
