[19/08/2010 02:29:39] w.akrika.lamptey: Hello BASSIL,

I have been in search of someone with this name " BASSIL " and it is my pleasure to seek for your business assistance, and I want you to consider it very important. This is an opportunity I would want us to utilize well.I am Mr. Wilson A. Lamptey, an officer in charge of Auditing and Accounting section with (Ghana Commercial Bank,GCB),and also a Relationship Account Officer to Dr. BRIAN BASSIL.

One Late Dr. BASSIL a citizen of your country had a fixed deposit with my bank in 2005 for 48 calendar months, valued at US$7,400,000.00 (Seven Million, Four Hundred Thousand US Dollars) the due date for this deposit contract was 16 of July 2009. Sadly Dr. BASSIL was among the death victims in the May 26 2006 Earthquake disaster in Java, Indonesia that killed over 5,000 people. He was in Indonesia on a business trip and that was how he met his tragic death.

I have carried out various inquiries to locate any of his extended relatives but this has proved unsuccessful. Since the demise of this our customer,Dr. BASSIL who was an seasoned oil Merchant/contractor here. I have kept a close watch of the deposit records and accounts and since then nobody has come to claim the said money in this a/c as next of kin.

I hereby write in regards to this effect to have you stand as the rightful beneficiary to Late Dr. BASSIL so that the funds will be claim and transferred into your foreign account before my Bank declares the total fund unserviceable or confiscated. Please you will be entitled to a percentage that will be discussed later with you and there is no risk involved, the transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of law.

I immensely request for your optimum honesty and cooperation and Let me know your mind on this, and please do treat this information as TOP SECRET. We shall go over the details once I receive your urgent response strictly through my personal email address, ([email protected]) We can as well discuss this on phone.

Never realised how persistant these guys actually are.

I guess i posted a lead balloon.

I guess its a situation where it appeared more funny at the time.

I will endeavour to post something much more impressive in the future or not bother at all

I feel ashamed.

Did you actually get his IP?

I could have possibly baited him much better then i did but this was done during work hours so i had other things i was concentrating on at the same time.

I didnt get his IP, Just wanted to see how they guy would react if i told him i had.

Yes i agree it was a bit lame on reflection but i tried :p

Dont worry OP, i enjoyed it. :) I hope he turned his PC off in panic that the fuzz were coming.

Reminds me of when a friend of mine was selling his old computer (only an old base system worth £300 at the time) back in 2004 and he had one of these scammers approach him via email who made out that he was interested in purchasing the PC. Unaware that he was a scammer at the time, my mate gave out his address & phone number.

After the scammer said that he wanted to purchase that PC, my mate never heard back from him for a week but then he got a phone call from his dad when he was at school, saying that a very suspicious letter had came through the post for him via air mail and just to be on the safe side his dad decided to open it. Low and behold, a cheque for £4000 was in this letter and the cheque itself was from some American washing machine company but the letter itself did not have a return address but it did have some African stamp on it which made his dad suspicious. The following evening they got a dodgy phone call who turned out to be the scammer who had a Foreign accent and they were demanding that they want this PC - and the cheque was infact sent from them. At this point it was my mates dad who was talking to this scammer on the phone and he started making threats to him saying that if he doesn't get the PC he will come and kill his family etc. and then his dad told the scammer he was going to notify the police and the scammer hung up.

Police got involved and said that the cheque was illegally obtained & stolen (more than likely a whole cheque book) by these scammers who turned out to be a huge Nigerian fraud syndicate.

I found it fairly amusing, but I've been cutting websites up in Photoshop all morning, so that might be why...
