I fail to understand how Audi feels it can justify using the word “salesperson” in conjunction with the people you see milling around their showrooms. You can’t miss said people, they are usually in sharp (but cheap) suits, often with tans from a bottle and sometimes with terrible tastes in jewellery. This week I decided I wanted to buy (yet another!!) car from the German company for my day to day duties. I felt able to detail the car I wanted, the budget, the car I needed them to take back and was willing to commit to giving them a PO if they helped me. Now to me this is gold to any sales person, a punter with money who has bought from you before, more than once and fancies another purchase. He doesn’t want a 10K super mini either; he wants a bloody great limo!

So why do 2 major Audi dealers both seem incapable of keeping to their commitments to call back and help me. One has failed not once but twice, even with me chasing them up and even with me moving from one sales person to another because of the lack of response to simply get another lack or response. The other is much the same too, as not only did they knock me down by delivering a poor customer experience after my last service, they made me smile again this week by doing a superb job on another issue only to kick me in the tuds by failing to call me back when promised to sell me a car. I gave them a chance, called up around 1pm today to ask to speak to ‘my man’ who promised to call yesterday after spending time telling him what I needed face to face only to be told "he is off today, but we will get another person to call you straight back to sell you something Mr Housey."

It’s 4:06pm as I type this and STILL Audi seem unable or unwilling to sell me a car. Audi if you read this you REALLY need to call me to both sell me a car AND ask me how to improve your sales function because it sucks and is damaging the brand you work so hard to maintain. Actually, sod the car, I'll go somewhere else and if you want help it's £5K a day.

:mad::mad::mad:

Why do you insist on going to the same dealership if you know the service is terrible?
Have you considered other German cars?

Write a review of their dealership so other people don't fall into the same trap.

On a similar note Dagenham Motors Ford seem intent on selling me a car! They keep phoning me with available cars to "drive today" with finance options available! It sounds like Audi need to take a leaf out of Ford's book! :p

Oh dear. They sound sutterly retarded.

This is it.

Even in "hard" times such as now they don't seem to give a toss about the customer or the service they provide.

I'm sure there are some out there but they mostly are tehre to make a quick buck and perhaps what you are after isn't what they expect (even if it could be an easy transaction).

I know you have bought a Porsche before - try the Porsche dealer where we bought my dad his in Mayfair.

Utter idiots who didn't care if we spent £90k or £90 or £0...

I went into a Audi showroom a few weeks ago looking to buy a used A4, the salesman refused to show me any used cars and would only discuss finance on a brand new Audi no matter how firm I got with him that I didn't want a brand new one...

I walked out and bought a '59' plate BMW 3-series...

The way I deal with salespeople is to try to think like they do. Try to work out what their commission structure might be, what pressures/constraints they have from above and what, to them, makes you a 'good' customer and worthy of them going the extra mile.

But your situation sounds completely unfathomable. I would expect any Audi salesman to be licking his lips at the thought of an A8 sale. I can't imagine he/she sells one every day.

Go and buy an S Class :).

I've exactly the same experience with Audi. BMW, Alfa, Merc all took me seriously recently when I was investigating options for my next car.

Audi took 20 minutes to find someone who could speak to me and gave me little/no help with an S3 instead trying to switch me to an A3 TDi.

They just seemed so up themselves it was amazing. Which is turn has made me think of the brand this way and put me off other models.

Housey - I know you specifically want a certain Audi but maybe drop Audi UK HQ a line with basically that post in it. Chances are they'll want to get a better dealership to get in contact with you and do everything they can.

My dad currently has on order a new Audi TT. The dealership was great up until the order was placed. Now it takes them forever to phone back or give him updates on when his car is going to be built.

I hate car salesmen. They never add value to a purchase, ever, and they all think they know everything because they are in the trade. They actually think they are something better than an order taker.

I have the fact that most used cars over 10k are sold be these fools.

Heard similar from a mate the other day who drove his freelander into his local land rover dealership and told them 'I want to buy a Discovery with X spec', they said they were busy and would get some suitable cars together for him, 2 days later they hadn't called him back despite him chasing them so he came over to my neck of the woods, drove into my local dealer and drove out a few hours later with a very nice Disco.

Amazing to see sales people effectively reject business.

When I bought my BMW in December I ended up having to go through 3 salespeople just because I didn't like the first 2 and couldn't make headway with them (same car and dealer)

Although not a sales person I've had a good experience with some warrenty work from Lincoln Audi :) Much better than the place I bought the car from.

Most people who buy cars through salesmen probably don't know much about the cars but when someone like us (a serious petrolhead) comes through the door and actually knows more about the car it is very annoying when they are clearly trying to make things up or lye or just guess the answer to questions.

10ish BMW's, 5ish Audis, a Porsche, some VW's have been bought by me...

I've considered lots of cars, I made the decision to buy only in the last couple of weeks and have been very clear when I was not ready to buy and when I am ready to buy. I have been to more than 1, I gave one 2 chances they failed, I moved to another, they failed. I won't be wasting my time trying to find someone to sell me a car I will move on to another brand. Have I considered other brands? Often....and bought them. The experience changes little sadly it's just Audi's turn this time around. There are exceptions, I know good car sales people just not selling the car I want right now. Forgive me for expecting good service, I appreciate it was somewhat remiss of me...

Housey has failed.

We have found out he is actually a shell suit wearing chav who should actually be in the kia dealership :D:D:D

Doesn't surprise me that they act like this, even though it sounds like they are bound to make and subsequent commission from you. Typical muppets!

Had similar experiences at Merecedes and Bentley. We were in the Merc showroom for a good twenty minutes with sales-people all chattering and ****ing about amongst themselves yet not one person even said hello or asked if we needed any help.

Bentley weren't happy to sell a car in cash and pushed hard to offer finance options with the sales person talking a lot of rubbish how it would benefit us to take finance etc Promised to call us and never did.

Best option: go elsewhere. They are not all like this, but a great deal are.

The Bentley guy judged that you were not a serious buyer - which he was right, you were not. After all, where is your Bentley now? You don't just decide against buying a car like a Bentley because the salesman was a bit crap.

A few months back my Uncle went into his local Audi dealership with intent on buying an A4, the salesman he spoke to told him it was more than he could afford. :o

Obviously I didn't go to buy a Bentley, I'm 19! We were interested in the number of S-Class's they had. The Bentley show room isn't specific. It has Range Rovers, S-Class's and Rolls Royces.
