Just want a few more fps to make it up to 30 in crysis,

I've seen that the MSI Afterburner is a good software for OC'ing and Furmark to test then?

It needs to last couple of years,

Its in a good roomy TJ10 case and its a POV brand if it makes any difference.

Also is the shader clock tied to the core or can it be changed separately?
 
@jigger-A bit conservative.

I consider any overclock where you don't need to increase volts safe, therefore take the clocks as high as you can on stock volts until you experience stability problems then back the clocks down 5 Mhz at a time until you reach stability. I use the heaven bench to test the stability of an overclock, simply let it run, if there is problems you will notice artifacts and then eventually a crash and the driver will recover. Keep an eye on temps with any overclock and consider using a fan profile to keep the card cooler.

Yeah the core clock is linked to the shader with GF100 and they can't be clocked separately.

I dont mind fan on full power as im guessin that overclocks only work in 3d more not on the desktop yeah?

Does MSI afterburner do fan control as well?
 
I got 775 max stable on stock volts (0.975) and 800 stable on 1.05v. As nVidia give the GF100 cores an acceptable voltage rating upto 1.075v for stock voltage I would assume that upto 1.075 is safe even on a 470. MSI claim anything upto 1.1v won't cause any problems on stock cooling aslong as you have decent airflow in the case.


On the desktop it will run at 400MHz aslong as no graphically intensive application is running, if it detects very light graphic useage it will eventually drop to 50MHz.

Should I leave fan speed on auto, I dont mind it maxxing out while gaming?

edit/ its getting really hot on auto as im guessing its running it hot to keep the temps down yeah?

On default profile auto it tends to get to around 80C but the fan stays quiet (mostly)... not really a problem tho.

Well it got to 90c when running kombustor but i've noticed that during games GPU usage isn't at 100%

also user defined fan options dont appear to be working properly. I can set it to a standard speed but not to a speed based on the defined curve
