Hello guys :D

Just got my HD5850 Couple of days ago, and i thought id take it for a little spin! So i fired up GTAIV : EFLC, Turned almost everything to max (Ecxept Shadows) and started. Got about 25-35 fps nightime and 20 - 30 daytime, so i turned textures down a bit and it didn't go that much up in performance

But is the performance as it should be for a rig of my caliber ?

Specs :

Intel @ Q6600 2.40 Ghz
ATI @ HD5850 1GB
4GB RAM
ASUS Motherboard (Dont know what its named, but its decent and new)

Thank you ! :D

Hi there, welcome to the forums. :D

You will want to overclock that CPU if you want significantly better performance in GTA4.

You can check the motherboard model number using this.

GTAIV is probably the worst console port ever,it relies heavily on a quad core cpu which you have but you will need to clock it @3.2-3.5ghz to get any improvement on the game.

Do not worry the 5850 is a cracking card and your rig is fine apart from not Overclocking your cpu @3.2-3.5ghz.

Do not base your 5850 purely on GTA its a truly shocking console port with awful coding

But is overclocking safe ? And is there some tutorial on how to do it safely?
and will i need some special kind of cooling to handle it ? or will my regular fans handle it ?

thanks for good answers Folks !:D

Aye, its very safe so long as you know what you are doing. If you have a google, you will find loads of Q6600 overclocking guides.

What you really need to do now is find out what the exact model number of your motherboard is and what revision your Q6600 is (B3 or G0) using CPU-Z (link in my last post).

If you plan to overclock you will be able to do a bit with your standard cooler (3GHz if you are lucky), but if you really want to push it then you certainly want a new CPU cooler. I would suggest this at a minimum and this if you can afford it.

Q6600 will do 3gig (25% performance increase) on stock voltage absolutely safely - just make sure you get the other settings right so the FSB/NB, etc. have enough voltage to be stable.

The intel Core 2 65nm line is fairly indestructible tho you would literally have to increase the voltage by 50+% or run it without a cooler to kill the CPU in a meaningful amount of time.

Thank you guys! :D
i will definately try overclocking My CPU.
Guess i have a little researching to do first !

But one more question, Do you have to be Good at this to manage it, or can i unexperienxed person fix it? Cause i aint very Pro when it comes to Bios and stuff..:P

You have been very helpful, thanks again ;)

As with everything concerning PCs the more you tinker with things the better/experienced you are.

Its not really hard to OC a Q6600 but like mentioned a massive factor will be what motherboard you are using?

Have a search from the link ive listed above there are loads of threads there regarding the Q6600 and overclocking and there are tons of information on google also.

You could also list your specs in the overclocking section on here and there will be lots of experienced ppl that will help you

You will need to find out what Motherboard you are using and what type of Ram you are using.

As already mentioned Download CPUZ http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html this will display your motherboard and ram info
