Seriously is there a catch with this engine? It gives very decent MPG while giving a very decent amount of performance (for a tractor). Tax isn't horrific either.

What are the service's like on these? How much? I assume it would be the same in the A6, Q7 etc.

How much are they over the 2.0TDI or 2.0T for servicing?

The 3.0T would be the only other engine that comes close in my opinion but these were only released in 2008 I think.

Has anyone on here got one of these? (in any model).

Thanks :)

The catch is that the 5.9 second 0-60 time you may have seen for these is largely a product of Quattro - 0-100 is more what you'd expect for this engine. The other catch is that unfortunately it comes in an Audi :p

Joking aside its a great engine.

Sadly for Audi, BMW's 3.0d is even better ;)

Yes but sadly the E60 Touring really doesn't float my boat. Audi have a habbit of making Estates look better than the saloon equivelant whereas with BM the Estates just look... stuck on. The E90 is the exception here though, I like that but want bigger.

Given the choice based on value for money which engine would you choose for an A6?

P.S - Sorry I know the E numbers aren't 100% but I always forget which is the coupe and touring.

The 4.2 V8 in the S6 Avant?. :D

These can be had for silly money. Even the later 5.2 V10's are popping up for daft cash lately. If you could afford to run and service one it would seem a bargain ( metal for moneywise ).

That said, your asking about diesel engined variants so I'll get me coat. :p

It's a good engine, I can't really fault it tbh, my sister has an A4 3.0 TDI ...it's nicer than the 3.2 V6 diesel in the Mercedes C class my Dad is now driving, it's quieter and a bit more powerful I think.

What I don't like though, is the lack of dipstick ...you have to rely on the computer to tell you about the oil, you can't manually check it.

He did/has, it's been up for sale for a while now. His wife has two cars, an '08 Mercedes C320 CDI Sport and an '09 BMW X5 35d xDrive M Sport. So he mostly uses her Merc now. I won't go into why, but it's financial.
