God what a harrowing, depressing read that pretty much confirms my ideas of what prison must be like. For me, the threat of prison I think will deter me from commiting a crime.
Incredible stat that the USA will soon have 3m people locked up in prison, thats just insane!
Woah long read was great. Really brutal over there. My uncle was in jail for 4 years in usa and did 14 years down London for attempted murder a few years later and came out fat saying our jails where like a blooming holiday camp compared to the us.
From what I've heard they most certainly aren't as messed up as what that guy is saying. I've had mates who said it was an 'interesting experience' and not much different from outside, apart from freedom loss. I suppose driving offences and armed robbery mean different prison types though.
If you found this story interesting then try reading 'The Damage Done', it's the true story of Warren Fellows, an Aussie who ends up inside Bang Kwang prison in Thailand, it makes most prisons in the world look like holiday camps.
