Whats a good safe overclock for the gTX 470?

All sorted now. too easy lol,

I'm upto 751/1502 with mem clocks on default. Gonnna play crysis warhead on that now !

My 470 will happily run at 850 with an exhaust fan on full over it but that was loud, so im running the fan at half speed but now the core is only stable at 820, same 3800mem 1087mv.

Actual gaming I get 66-72C depending on the game, fanspeed <70%. Furmark and OC Scanner get me to around 91C with around 80% fanspeed - no amount of airflow/additional cooling seems to bring furmark temps down but drops gaming temps nicely.

How's that possible, you both have reference coolers plus juno has a watercooled CPU and he's getting higher temps with higher fan speed? It doesn't make any sense to me tbh. You Rroff seem to have a cherry picked 470 or a superior cooler :p Unless juno was talking about Furmark as well. BTW, how long are you running Furmark for? I know it can take up the temps for hours.

This 470 does seem to run cooler than others - I just put one in a machine for a friend seeing as they are cheap and his hits 80C in games even with my modified fan profile (whereas mines 71C with same settings).

I have very good airflow in this case tho which massively drops temps until you hit the cooler saturation.

EDIT: I have a coolermaster V8 on my CPU - but it has its own airflow entirely seperated from the GPU area so its probably no difference to a watercooled setup for impact on the overall temps - once my GPU stabalises in furmarks (somewhere around 80% fanspeed) no amount of turning the fan up results in any drop in temps even at 100% it still stabalises at 91C.

I am so tempted to buy another one for SLI :S but only playing at 1680x I don't really need it... once you go SLI tho you feel a bit... inadequate without it :P

Yeah by full GPU load I meant furmark or similar, actually even SC2 at high res with 4xAA uses about 90% GPU.

It is nice to watercool the CPU as its heat is dumped outside the tower, but Ive had to slot a xonar directly under my 470 as the chipset heatsinks prevented me slotting it above the 470.
The tower is well ventillated though with a CPU fan running at half speed placed over the tiny gap between 470 & xonar to aid air-flow.

Id guess my Zotac 470 is average when it comes to overclocking.

Id like to SLI the 470 myself but my my other PCI-e slot only supports 4x speed & not SLI, which makes going SLI even more expensive by having to replace the mobo too.
I last went SLI with the 7800gtx 5 years ago & had nothing but hassle with games using both GPU's, hopefully games/drivers have improved since.

850 is my max stable clock with 1.087v but I usually just run with 800 24/7. With the memory I gain bugger all performance so just stuck it at a moderate 1750.

Rroff is the memory stable at 2000? I thought it was inferior to what the 480 uses.

Don't suppose you have a power plug wattage monitor jobby do ya? Just out of interest could you run any old benchmark at stock settings, voltage/clocks, then whatever you can run on stock voltage highest clocks, and both of those clocks with voltage at 1.05v, would be very interested to see if the wattage usage scales as badly as those leaks suggest(leaks of 512sp 485gtx power that is).

Bit of an odd one - when I was testing on stock clocks I could run 775 stable all day long with stock VRAM but if I turned the RAM up above 1800 it would crash out of anything in under 5 minutes. However on 800MHz I can turn it up to atleast 2000 perfectly fine. I wonder if the VRAM frequency works on some kinda divider related to the core clock.

I don't have anything but I can prolly borrow something from my dad to test wattage when hes back monday.
