Hi, I purchased an Optical Splitter, and 3 x Optical leads.

I was looking to connect 2 consoles to one optical input on my amp, so I’m basically trying to use the splitter in reverse. I have searched these and other forums to find that it does work as long as it’s not with something like a sky box, which still outputs an optical signal even when off.

I have connected them together, but I get no sound from either consoles.

I have checked:

That only one console is on at a time.
That any of the consoles output an optical sound when off.
All cables are working perfectly without the splitter.
That there’s a signal (red light) outputting from the optical in cable.

I’m just confused on what it could be? Oh, and I have tried using the splitter the correct way, and still doesn't seem to work.

Is there something I may have to change on the amp?

Cheers

I think I’ve found the problem.

Once I put the optical leads through the splitter, the signal gets weaker. The red light goes a lot dimmer than it’s meant to be, so I don’t think it’s strong enough for the amp to see.

Is there any sort of signal booster? I may just look at other splitters to see if they give a stronger optical output.

Cheers

I tried this using a generic optical splitter in reverse - it didn't work for me either (tried it both ways)
In the end I bought a slightly more expensive optical switch (the silver ones that have a selector nob on them) and just switch between each, and that works fine. Cost about £6 off Ebay if I remember rightly.

Exact same experience I had. I too had to purchase an optical switch in the end. Pointless now because I've since replaced my amp with one that just takes HDMI from both consoles, so I don't use optical at all now.
