Transferring from PS3 60GB to PS3 slim

I’m thinking of purchasing a PS3 slim as my PS3 60 GB maybe on its way out. Since Sony decided to removed Linux support from the original PS3 I basically have about 10 GB sitting there doing nothing and unable to use. I know you can transfer data directly using an Ethernet cable between both consoles, will this also copy the dormant Linux partition?

The "Other OS" option isn't on the Slim either. So Linux won't work.

I know but because the "Other OS" is not there will the PS3 copy the 10GB partition also which I cant use onto the PS3 slim 250GB, wasting 10Gb on my new console or will it just copy over the save game data only etc and leave the dormant 10Gb on the phat PS3?
