Hi,

Still looking for my first car after passing recently, max budget £3000.
Just looking for an all-rounder and the Focus seems to fit my needs, also looking at Mondeo`s but I really hate the look of them despite being good cars.

Anyway, Im unsure what is considered a good price for a Focus.
Been looking around the usual sources and prices seem to vary wildly.

For example a local dealer has this: http://www.britanniamotorcompany.co...el=All models&pricerange=2000,4000&ID=1350486
Selling for £2990.

Would that be considered a good price?
What should I be looking out for?

If the only thing you dont like about the Mondeo is how it looks, get one anyway.

Because lets face it, a Mk1 Focus isnt an Aston Martin is it?

Can't you just about get MK2s for that sort of money?

A work colleague claims that is what he paid for a reasonably tidy 1.6 Automatic Zetec Climate thingy... But he is well known for stretching the truth.

Way overpriced as others have already said, and it's only near enough a base model as well! You want try and get one of the high spec models that also comes with alloy wheels, traction control & climate control.

For £3000 you could get a decent ST.

say what?

What I said is quite clearly visible in your quote.

That car is worth 2k privately tops if it's in very good condition.

Well thats strange, as Glass's puts its trade value at £1900ish.

I've looking around at focuses/mondeos for the past 2 months, you can get a decent 2.0 facelift ghia for less than 2k nowadays.

With 60k miles on a 52 plate? You've obviously not found that many decent ones for under £2k or you'd have bought one already.

There is little or no chance of getting a mk2 for 3k even a 1.4 no toys effort.
I wouldnt waste your time and effort seeking out an ST170 as the insurance will be ludicrous if you have only recently passed your test. If your set on a focus I would aim for a 1.6 with toys. Low on insurance and tax and should give you miles of trouble free motoring.

It says it has History in the title yet all I can see is 2 previous MOT's and 'Service Book'. I'd be phoning up to see if it's FSH or close.

I actually don't mind the cream interior, better than dull/boring black.
