Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice...
I'm looking to upgrade my old gaming PC as its getting a little creaky now. The only salvageable elements are the GPU, PSU HDD and souncard. Case wise I have opted for the CM 690 II advanced. I am looking to sepnd about £500 to upgrade and have come up with the list below for a mid range gaming rig. On the main I think it looks ok as an overclocker but wanted some feedback especially on the motherboard as can't find many reviews. I plumped for that one as it has Sata 6Gb/s which is compatible with the SSD drive I want to use for Windows 7 and a couple of games. Is Sata 6Gb/s necessary? and if so is that motherboard the right one in this price point to offer overclock potential. I know the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD2 is very popular but only runs sata3Gb/s.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £104.99

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail £154.99

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £86.94

Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1) £114.99

Titan TTC-NK85TZ/V2 Fenrir CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366) £32.99

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin £10.21 x2

Total : £526.48

board shuld clock well and yes if youre getting that ssd you want a board with 6gig SATA, might be worth getting some memory with lower latency is only suggestion

no youve lowered speed there with that ram which might cost you in OCing headroom, you seem to be wanting to stick with corsair? no real reason to, look at GSkill stuff here, perfectly fine, there is a lower latency OCZ set but some people have reported issues

Ram speeds and latency always confuses me... So when I look at one element I always miss the other :/ As for Corsair I know them as a brand, but happy to go with others if equally as good.

I believe its the DDR3 Ram that OCZ have had troubles with, but worth double checking on that - perhaps other members will testify/correct me on that one though. There are better coolers out there. Noctua DH14 was the king of the crop but i think if web reviews are to be believed, the Thermalright Silver Arrow has now taken its crown.

Will take a look, though I assume the cost is going to go up with those? I know someone who has had the Fenrir and has had no problems with it, so thats why I picked that one

An oldish Seagate Barracuda. My assumption for not replacing is that everything of use will boot off the SSD and the HDD will just be for storage of media files etc

Thanks all for your input, much appreciated. All the new goodies are now ordered and I can't wait to get them tomorrow. Will let you know how the build goes.
