Having a look about for a car (still lol) and the C4 coupe looks quite interesting, its the 1.6 petrol model. Looking at the normal places honest johns, parkers and a C4 forum etc it looks like most of its issues have been sorted with 5 recalls so far and quite a few minor problems known about. I also checked the reliabity index thing and it scores a pretty good 30 that puts it in the top 20 above the focus, accords, and golfs to name a few. It does seem its a pretty good car and many have said its up there with the golf/focus but with more toys and built quite well. I dont know anyone with one apart from the neighbour who has a c4 grand picasso that has never given him a problem for 4 years he has had it. Question is has anyone had one, coupe or hatch or know anyone that has, most of the issues seem to be with the diesels and perhaps the 1.4 petrol but im avoiding them TBH. Are they a decent second hand buy? Ive seen an 05 1.6 VTR coupe with 67K for £3.5K that does look nice and has pretty much FSH with one or 2 from non citroen garages.

which reliability index ?

I cant see a honda accord being more reliable than a citroen C4 given its position in the 2009 JD Power Owners Survery.

That put it at 61st

considering the Honda Accord was 5th in the same survery, id question that reliability index your using.

Its never going to be an very reliable car. Its only 61st out of 104 so its hardly going to be terrible, but dont kid yourself that its class leading as the Civic, Golf, A3, Fabia, Auris and Mazda 3 all fared better.

Is it an ok car ? yes if you really want one. But you can do better.

Quite like the VTS version a mate has. Distinctive looking. Weird interior. Kept up with a 1.8T Leon.

http://www.reliabilityindex.com/reliability/search/42 the one based on warranty claims, the JD survey is pointless IMO as it takes in to many "opinions" rather than the facts.
Yeah those other cars are prob better but they are more than i want to pay for the same spec/age and mileage.

Remembering bits as far as my hangover will allow.

The VTS (reckon similar for VTR) felt like a big 206 GTi to me. Competent enough to let you think there's a proper hot hatch, but...bit soft in terms of input.

and it has to be based on a very small data sample

according to that 0.00 % of C4s have made a warranty claim on engine problems, and 0.00 % have had A/C problems.

No engine is perfect so the 0.00 % is impossible.

This index is only based upon data from people who have bought an aftermarket warranty from warranty direct. Not all warranty repairs on all vehicles - hence the skewed results as we are only looking at stats from a tiny % of owners.

i guess you could say the same about the JD power survery, but there aint no way in hell a C4 is more reliable than a honda accord.

Yeah thats why i wanted more input from owners TBH, i cant think its that reliable but then again most problems ive heard seem to be related to the diesel or fixed with recalls.

My friend has a C4, I think its a 1.6 petrol. It went back to the garage a few times after buying it with issues but not sure if they were just problems with that one or common faults. I'll give him a poke and see if he can post some info.

Cheers, there has been 5 redcalls in 5 years so maybe its playing catch up.

I have the 1.6i 16V SX 5d, 05 plate. To be honest I would not buy another one. Although your talking about the VTR which is 'supposed' to be better.
Quite a few problems with the electrics such as windows and speed control. Its been back to the garage several times just regarding this.
