Is Stalker worth a buy?

i paid 3quid for it on steam played it for an hour and wish i hadnt bothered.

marmite game for sure. it looks horridly dated and just doesnt flow,, im sure the newer games are better.

its like playing HL after you have played Hl2 for years... its just 2nd rate..
 
STALKER is definitely worth buying mate. Currently on my 4th play through. Great game :)

Get the STALKER Complete 2009 mod for it mate! The game is fantastic, you just need to get into it.

Yes its worth playing in order but not 100% required. I would TBH, the first one is a fantastic game and when you see the first Bloodsucker because of where it is you might do what I did and do a little poo

It was years ago and moments from the game are stuck in my mind
 
Bought the first and third. Really enjoying the first so far. Is it worth playing the 2nd or was it so bad, just skip to the last once I have completed the first one?

I'd play it and treat it like a map pack, they re-used a lot of the maps and it was incredibly buggy to the point where I couldnt progress after a certain part but I would assume theres patches and mods that sort this now. Otherwise if you CBA, then dont bother and jump straight to Pripyat which is arguably the best one
 
Just started Pripyat, actually really enjoying it now I've given it more of a chance. Only dissapointment for me is it doesn't run that great on my pc (5800 1gb, phenom iix4 965, 4gb of geil ultra, 1900x1200).
 
I have also just started Pirypat, liking it so far but I got to the boat with a load of guns that I looted from dead bodies and the merchant would only buy one, how can I sell the rest of the stuff? I have put a load in a locker in one of the bunk rooms of the boat but assume it will get knicked before I can turn it to cash!

Clear Sky is excellent. Defo worth a buy, especially as the other day it was £5.85 :)

If its too damaged to sell just ignore it, no merchant will touch it and repairing it isn't like Fallout 3 so you may aswell just dump it. I recall i had a large pile of discarded guns outside the first ship...

The only real source for money is Artifacts anyway.

They are good games but the accuracy (if you can call it that) is ****ing ridiculous and is so bad its downright frustrating. At least on the original.

The Complete mod was the difference between me giving up and sticking with the game to the end. Stalker is a flawed gem, but well worth playing. What it does well it does better than anything else.
 
Yes deffinately, one of the best FPS/RPG games IMHO. There are the "complete" mods available for SOC & CS and the team are working on COP, the main website for these is here. Regarding peoples issues with the guns not being accurate you start the game as a rookie to both guns and shooting and your first guns may not be in great condition or the most accurate, as you progress you get better guns and better at shooting them which I find is more realistic than jumping into a game and expecting to be an expert. The Stalker world and experience is really immersive if you give it half a chance, which you really should.

Theres a difference between being a rookie and being a complete retard. The accuracy in this game is definatly the latter. Theres a fine line between realism and frustration and this doesn't even acknowledge its existance. Especially when enemies can hit you from 300m with grenades.
 
Worth a punt if its cheap but you have to mod it. I see it as more of a sandbox game as its a bit ropey unless you fiddle with it a lot. Ie mods and trainers etc.
It's almost excellent, but its not quite there if you know what I mean. Great atmosphere but it doesn't quite pull it off.
