get a good air cooled 470 with custom cooler for that price
no such option
the AMP! edition seems to be MIA, the 3000F cooler isn't out yet and the Gelid cooler won't fit all 470's because the mounting is screwed up

dual 460s are faster, and can be had for less!

460= lower memory, will not scale 100% in all games, and with it being a dual card setup expect inconsistent performance and stability issues from now and then.
MSI
it's the cheapest and iirc they use better components
Sweetwhat sort of overclocks would I be looking at on a reference 480 as well? e.g. is a 750Mhz core clock easily doable with stock volts and decent temps?

This. As I said in my first post I don't really want to go down the multiple gpu route again. Sli and xfire are great, when they work. The thing is not all games support it and if they do it's quite hit and miss as to how well they utilise both gpus from game to game. Just want to keep things simple from now on.
I only have my card as reference, but I can manage 825 / 2000 on stock volts. I haven't pushed the memory further as I like to have stable memory. I can get to 850mhz stable fairly easily by upping the voltage, but the heat output of the card spikes massively with even a little extra voltage, so I'm sticking to stock volts.
I'm on stock air cooling btw. From what I understand I've dropped fairly lucky, but most 480s will hit 800mhz core at stock volts.
Max temps I have seen are 93C in furmark (at 825/2000 stock volts), and 88C in-game (crysis). The room is fairly warm and case ventilation is not great. At 88C the fan is at around 70%, and isn't so noisy. Not exactly quiet but a big step up from 100% (which is what you'll get by pumping extra volts through it).
