You just know that it will be the cheapest sparkling wine that the Co-Op had on offer. Probably a South African, or worse...

Some corks are bad in some wines, just make sure when you start to pierce a hole in the cork to pinpoint the middle as much as you can before doing the mandatory screwing.

To get the cork out of the bottle (hopefully you have a winewaiters friend handy instead of those big bulky ones with levers on it) Just gently rescrew the cork at the bottle neck edge (carefully screwing and not putting any diect downward force or that would be catastrophic in your case. Then once the cork has a fair amount of the corkscrew embedded in it then try and carefully pull it out again.

Use a corkscrew is the obvious answer, failing that then push the cork into the bottle, if you can't even do that then if you've got some tools available use a screw and a pair of pliers - screw the screw into the cork and then use a pair of pliers to put the cork out since you've given yourself some purchase to do so.

I'd say you'd probably want to use a corkscrew. Entertaining OP though must say.

However, you are the first person I know of to snap a cork on a sparkling wine/champagne
