Tell me about the Audi TT

Starting to like the look of these but I'm not sure which variation I'm noticing, how does the TTS differ the the TT and which engine flavour is best?

The soft top version looks slightly strange with the roof up as I'm used to seeing it in it's original coupé form.

The older pre facelift TT's don't interest me at all because they look a bit 'soft'.

How do they compare to an S2000? I take it build quality from a Honda will be vastly improved?
 
The TTS has a 270bhp 2 litre turbo. Trouble is they start at 28k which is ridiculous for a TT. The normal 2 litre turbo ones with 200bhp are much cheaper.

Far better built than an S2000 but nothing like as sharp. With Audi, driver appeal comes second to looks and image.

I actually really like the TTS but It's just such a stupid amount for a TT.

S2000 was designed and released in 1999, it has very few driver aids and a very high reving N/A VTEC engine. The new TT was only released a few years ago, is suppose to be a bit dull in handling and steering (the total opposite to an S2000) and most of the engines are turbocharged.

Not to everyones tastes and I know the TTS is more than just a bigger engine but a remap and a few simple cheap mods from the 2l T 200bhp can easily see 250bhp+.
 
The TTs is a excellent car but way too expensive for what it is. The same money can get you a 335i or even a S5.

With a remap the TTs will put our over 300 bhp.
 
Does Quattro do anything to improve feel? I was quite surprised to see these were fwd as standard.

Which engine? I know the original TT's did but they gave out 225bhp as standard, the new 2.0T gives out 200bhp and companies only seem to be quoting 240bhp~.

No, they still feel lifeless and dull from a driver feedback sense.

They do have more mechanical grip, but what use is that when it feels so disconnected.

S5 starts at £25k used now.

Remember the S5 isnt quite what people think. It's no M3 rival - it is infact positioned far more closely to the 335i than the M3. Especially with the latest versions having forced induction 6 pots just like a 335i.

Some people have becuase there are some around used. It's a huge amount of cash for a 2 litre turbo Golf based Coupe though, but they DO look cool.

£27k from a franchised dealer for the TTS Coupé, so privately, £23-4k ?
 
Errr no, £27k is starting price for any TT-S. Have a look yourself. You wont be getting one for £23k and private sales at this sort of money are very rare anyway, there must be 100 dealer cars for every private sale.

I saw a TT-S a few months ago on an 08 plate, thought 'Wow, thats a nice looking car, maybe I'll check that out, cant be more than £20k'. I was then shocked to discover they started at almost £30k on the used market!

The TT looks rather plain without the big TT-S bodykit etc, which is a shame, because if you like the way the standard TT looks you can pick them up from about £13-14k these days.
 
Luckily an S2000 is not a place you sit and lust after toys and refined interior. So while the build quality will be a marked improvement in a lot of areas I am not sure it's a comparison you would want to make between the 2 cars :)

Have never driven them but the newer models do look much much better than the old ones in coupe form. I don't like the old style at all.
 
I saw a TT-RS in a dealer yesterday and thought, which absolute mental case would spend GTR money (55k) on a Hairdressers car with an S3 engine.
