HI all,

Got another problem on my 51reg Fiesta..

I was completeing a oil change the other day and I noticed that the gearbox (just the gearbox) was pretty much covered in oil, seems worse were there is a rod coming out of it.

Lately, the gears seem to be pretty smooth or a bit clunky.

So far this year its had the following, can any of these link to it or is it seperate?

minor service at start of the year, oil+filter change.

it has also since had its coolant and break fluid changed.

Not long ago the clutch went and was replaced,

Thanks for any advice

Thanks for that, the garage that did the clutch change is not my normal one, yet a RAC approved garage. Is it unreasonable for them to check it saying the above, or am I likely going to have a new set of charges, aka will they say it was not caused by the clutch change?

If they admit fault straight away, give me their number cause I'm using them next time. Put it that way.

Also don't go in based on what I say. Take it to a garage for an assessment / quote and mention that the clutch was changed. They may agree to put it in writing that the job wasn't done properly.

Of course it could be a totally unrelated problem.

You didn't answer my question:

"seems worse were there is a rod coming out of it."

"You mean the drive shaft?"

Sorry, from looking at the internet and research I believe it is the driveshaft yes. I will take it to a small indy that the family uses and see what they say, Depending on what they say I will take it from there.

Thanks

Does the rod go to the wheel? If so its a drive shaft if it goes towards the back of the car it will bear the gear change shaft rod (or whatever you want to call it)

You wouldn't normally change the driveshaft oils seals when replacing the clutch unless they were leaking already. I suspect that the seal (s) was damaged when the driveshaft was removed or refitted when the box was out to fit the new clutch and the garage wasn't aware they had damaged it.
