is the 470 £45 pounds better than the 460....?

when I told the wife about this post she just said get the 470 ..lol....

so next question is:

the MSI one for £224.99 or the zoltec for an extra £5.00 for the longer warranty ?

what would you do ?

before Ive always bought BFG for the longer warranties and look how worth while that has turned out to be.... :(

Zotac, at only £5 difference the longer warranty is appealing. BFG offered lifetime warranties in the US and 10 years in Europe, they also replaced many cards with better models.

1. Both cards are reference PCBs. except MSI tweaked it a bit, the info's in the anandtech review
2. Every reference card can be voltage tweaked. iirc some MSI cards you can overvolt memory and some other component as well
3. Zotac has the longest warranty. doesn't mean it's the best

Personally I'd take the gamble on the shorter warranty with MSI as their stuff generally overclocks the best, although my graphics cards don't get used that heavily compared to some people's these days so they probably have less chance of failing anyway. If you're a heavy gamer and likely to be using it quite a bit every day then go with the 5 year warranty.

I am swinging towards the MSI as the longer warranty even though its appealing hasn't helped on the BFG cards i have now that they have gone out of business.

the MSI also does seem to have better components according to the anandtech review.

I notice the MSI card has just gone up by a fiver... :(

maybe its in preparation for TWO tomorrow and it will go down by six or seven quid making it a couple of quid cheaper than it was earlier today.... heres hoping :D

I've just noticed that the Xfx 5850 is down to £200 on this week only. Usually I wouldn't recommend 5850s as ATI have been stingy with their current price model as its hard to find one below £215, but at £200 the 5850 sits nicely between the 460 and the 470 in terms of price and performance. Any thoughts? The 5850 will be quieter and cooler running (not that that matters I suppose)

According to MSIs website, all their cards and motherboards have a 3 year warranty, which doesnt require you to register the cards.

Im not sure why UK retailers say we get less.

As for the 470 + 480, take note that they have only been reduced to clear the current ones out, so that Nvidia can release the full 384 shader version of the G104 core later (Think GTX 460 efficiency, 470-480 performance and price point). I would rather wait for one of those.

That was my plan originally, but i caved in and grabbed a GTX460 so i can play Mafia 2.

I don't think a full fat GF104 card will launch at current GTX470 pricing though, i expect it to be ~£250 at least, probably more like £275.

What i am interested to know is whether we will be able to try flashing GTX460's to 384 shaders when the appropriate bios are available (like people have done with GTX465>GTX470).

Well my son wanted to upgrade his GPU, so l converted my 5870 back to air cooling and sold it to him at a knock down price. So l decided to get the MSI GTX 470 with the voltage tweak technology as it was a good price at OCUK.

Just played BC2 for 4hrs none stop, GPU temp reached a steady [room temp 23'c] 70'c > fan speed about 4600rpm [using GPU-Z] and the noise was'nt to bad. This is my first Nvidia card in over 10yrs, setting's at max / aa + af on, etc, and l'm well impressed. At the moo just my CPU is water cooled getting a GPU H2o block this week.

So my rig will be very silent again, and l'll see what the card will do OC'd, l'll let you's know the out come temp's ,etc.
