Now on this loverly site we have in the blue corner a
Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail [BX80601930] is £223.24 inc VAT
yet in the red corner we have the Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail is only £234.99 inc VAT.

Is this really a no brianer or is something different in the chips apart from the clock speed?

Cheers

Warren

Not very wierd, the 930 has gone (or will go) end of line, and phased out. Sure there will be some 930 stock floating around for some time, but once its gone thats it.

The 950 is now the "entry level" price point for the 9xx i7 range.

In trays of 1000, the 950 are likely to be the same price the 930 (and 920) formerly were.

As soon as the price dropped from £460 to £234, I pre-ordered one. I'm hoping it will arrive Wednesday. Some companies (Do not mention competitors) still have the chip for sale at £460. It’s not much more than the 930. Go for it..

Just a friendly heads up, it's against forum rules to mention OCUK competitors.

I guess that depends on what you use your PC for Warren and how often you upgrade? . . . if you only want to build a new PC every 4-6 years and really need uBer high end processing power and can "justify" blowing an extra £250 odd on your build then Intel® Core™ i7 certainly fits the bill ££ :D . . . well until Intel® Sandy Bridge comes out . . . although if your just gaming and normal stuff like that and don't really tell other people what hardware is inside your PC then there are plenty of more affordable options about! . . . Personally I can't help but build a new system every 12-15 months so tend to buy what I actually "need" for the timeframe I intend to use the PC for . . . I dunno I guess I am a sucker for all the new/latest technology and it's hard to avoid all the marketing spin and reviews and hype etc . . . each to their own I guess!

Wayne loves his graphs. :p I think if you're even considering buying an i7 then you're not exactly looking to build a 'budget gaming system' which is what the Athlon X3/X4 chips are aimed at.
