How much Electric does a PC use?

You cant work out (cost per kw hour) times (power consumpion) times (time)? And neither can your flatmate?

It uses electricity. Not electric.
 
Only way to stop the dispute is to get a plug that calculates how much in £ you've used.

Whack it on her hair drier when she uses it :D
 
PC in sig with a Q9550 instead of E8500 + 24" monitor only pulls 300w at load, so your's would be less.
 
This is what I did with my flatmates, they were complaining that my stereo and pc were driving up the power bills. I bought one of these plugs showed them and how to calculate it, then I asked them how many times they dry/straighten there a hair a week, plugged the straighters and hairdryer into the plug and calculated it. It's safe to say they prompty returned to the kitchen.
 
Measured a couple of mine.

Shuttle with AMD XP2200, 1Gb RAM, 256Mb graphics card and 2 hard disks = 110W.

HP laptop with XP2000 processor, 512Mb RAM = 35W idle to 75W flat out.

2009 Dell Latitude laptop = 13W idle, 18W flat out (which I found very impressive and it's not a slouch :cool:)

Ive got a 4870 512mb on stock clocks, and the zalman ZM-MFC2 fan controller which is reporting 175W on idle. That's with a 600W power supply, 2 hdd's and 4gb ram.

It rises to 285W under load. My rig (cpu/ram) is overclocked though, so yours may consume a little less.

This is excluding my monitors, but also got a G15, G5 and logitech usb mic.

Thanks for the info guys, think she's just looking for reasons to blame me for the slight increase in the electricity bill. But you lot are certainly right, this PC hardly uses any power compared to her hairdryers, clothes dryer, and leaving all the lights in the house on overnight.

Time to tell her to get back in the Kitchen and make me a sandwich IMO. :D
