Thought I'd post this up due to recent anti finance posts and after a thread I started about looking for a little city car.

Picked up a Hyundai i10 run about for school / tesco run for missus to replace a knackered A Class. First impressions, it's a great fun little car to drive, nips around traffic, and even good fun on country lanes.

Sure it's small... and slow, but it feels quick and for the money has amazing level of quality / spec, you really don't feel your in such a cheap car (made in india no less)

Price, well £6995 for a mint 08 plater previously owned by a old lady. 2200 miles, auto box and 3 years hyundai warranty left.

This is the good bit, I didn't have a 'slush fund' of 7k just sitting in my bank account so bought on a below average finance deal... see, people buy motors on finance even if it's a not a car 'as a hobby', it's what most people do. (most newer cars you see on the road ARE on finance, it's a easy way to drive the car you want). Could I of paid for it with cash, yes... but I can think of more interesting things to spend wedge on, like nice holidays etc.

I know.... plenty of better buys for the money, but I wanted something nearly new for the missus without the power to scare her senseless, and she's over the moon with the little scamp ;)

Will I be seen driving it, hell yeah... puts a grin on my face nipping about town and I couldn't give a monkeys what I look like in a OAP mobile.....

Please could you do all of OCUK motors a favor, run this on Tescos 95 Ron for a few tanks then run its on Tescos 99 Rom for a few tanks and report back on the MPG you got from each tank full.

£7k for the motoring equivalent of herpes, financed too, congrats.

as far as I can remember they are about 8.5k for a new auto box one...

Yes, well worth saving the £1,500 of finance so you could enjoy the benefits a used one brings to the table...

If I'm allowed to, I would also like to express shock and amusement at this statement:

'I didn't hunt around for any special deals... dont have time for that, but it worked out abit cheaper than new'

why herpes ?, it's a city car...they aint meant to be cary fast, it does what it does nothing else, ie, gets to shops.

I could equally look down on your car at the sheer slowness of it... but I don't, it's just another car

Car snobbery is a terrible thing... does a trendy badge make anyone a better person ? ;)

Plenty of cars out there that aren't awful, combined with a terrible gearbox. This has nothing to do with wanting a posh badge, rather just not wanting a washing machine.
