2003 HONDA Civic 2.0 i-VTEC Type-S

Hi Guys,

I've seen one of these for sale... does anyone have experience of these cars? It's going for 3.5k and ticks all the boxes for me, just wanted peeps experiences of owning/driving one?

Ta,

Andy.

Trouble free motoring provided there's no click feeling in the steering lock to lock.

After the year and a half I've had with the Saab, that sounds wonderful!

What would a click in the lock to lock be?

My Saab has noises from the column, but that's a £800 fix!

Andy.

Cracked bulkhead on a 93/900 by any chance?

Ha, not quite although I know that issue is prevalent in earlier models, mine is the SS, so fortunately doesn't suffer from that particular Saab issue.

Mine was a knackered intercooler/turbo/catalytic converter

Ah figured it would be a diesel, have heard they can be pretty problematic :(

Anyway, the civic won't give you any grief unless you're very unlucky but you'll be downgrading slightly in terms of comfort and specification.

I recently moved from a 93 (a 2005 aero) to a Honda accord. Different reasons to you, wanted to free up some cash, but maybe an accord would be more suited?

2.0 VTEC engine, 160bhp. Reasonable, but just feels like any other 2 litre hatchback but with less low down grunt.

Revs quite well, decent interior. Reliable.

They're decent cars but I felt a Focus 2.0 is the better car at a similar price point.

For a small car, they have the turning circle of an ocean liner - otherwise good cars though. Very roomy in the back.

I was going to look at one of these but the one i found for £3200 ish hadnt had a service since 2007, i thought its gonna cost me a bit when i have one so i left it.

It's pre space-ship face lift :D

Have yet to test drive one (drove a new shape type R, now that was fun!), but to be honest, there is so little that "fits" for me and my budget that I'm a bit "meh" about all options... this just seems the best of them.

The standard 1.6 had a terrible turning circle, I'm not sure if the S Type has a different quicker rack.
Try parking in a tight bay and then think about all those OAPs you have done a disservice to by laughing at in the Tesco car park.

Saab could be gone today, so going to have to look at other cars.... any more thoughts? Anything similar I should be looking at?

Ta, Andy.

Well, I've found an 02 plate, 36k blue 5 door (rather 3, but there just aren't any!) for 3.5k... so going to see it on Saturday and that could be the new motor!

Any other things apart from the steering rack to look out for on this model? (I'm well versed in checking generic things).

Cheers,

Andy.

matching tyres, service history.

not sure if it's a problem on newer civics, but rear arch rust
